This is a truly superb review by my old INET colleague, @PMehrling, highlighting the fundamental flaws in Rogoff's worldview, as well as giving a textbook illustration of how real finance actually works. No economist does this better than Perry.
Excellent introduction, but read the book as I just have. Capitalism as shape-shifting, hierarchical, global from the beginning, heterogenous at every moment and gaining robustness from that heterogeneity, and so on and so forth....Read it.

Thanks. The quote sounds like me, but I forget where I wrote it! How does Grok help you read my books? Genuinely curious.

In case you missed it, Japanese 30-year rates have now caught up with 30Y German rates (even if policy rates are very different, 2.25% in the Eurozone and 0.50% in Japan).
Bond markets are behaving differently in 2025, from Japan to the US. The old rules no longer apply (STRATEGIC shift here too)

One of the greats. Theory of Capitalist Regulation (1976) was a seminal influence for me.
"My strong, unwavering belief is that Pax Americana is a damn good deal for the United States AND the world"
Somebody's been reading their Kindleberger!
Replying to @EpsilonTheory
Pax Americana is the dominance of the USD as the world’s reserve currency and the US military as the world’s security arbiter.
Pax Americana is most of all the American stories that have dominated the hearts and minds of everyone on Earth for 50+ years.
