This is big news and outstanding progress for patients. While Rare Disease are now getting long overdue attention, the focus needs to stay on the ecosystem for the long-term.
The FDA today launched the Rare Disease Framework Initiative to reimagine rare disease drug development.
The new framework will adapt aspects of the agency’s long-standing approach designed for larger diseases. It will adopt an optimized, fit-for-purpose framework for rare disease drug development that considers the nuances of a specific disease, patient needs, product type, and attainable evidence. fda.gov/news-events/press-an…
FDA will host a meeting on Oct. 28 at the White Oak campus to collect feedback on the Rare Disease Framework Initiative from patients, disease advocates, industry, and other stakeholders. fda.gov/news-events/fda-meet…

Nonprofit CEOs and EDs must lead technology, not just manage it. AI, data and digital fundraising can amplify mission and unlock growth. The wrong hire can cost millions. #ExecutiveSearch #NonprofitLeadership
We love exploring and leveraging new technologies. Instead of debating end of world scenarios, let's take advantage of what is available to make life better for everyone.
A milestone for AI-enabled drug discovery: Insilico’s rentosertib for IPF has entered Phase III, with the first patient dosed. No AI-designed drug has reached approval yet; but the field is moving forward. #Biotech
We are a search firm but technology is an interesting topic. We have had clients openly push back on exploring new technologies that would clearly amplify the org into the future. While uncomfortable, first (early) mover advantage is real. #nonprofit #blockchain #AI
Tomorrow’s nonprofit leaders must lead technology transformation: not simply manage it. AI, data, and digital fundraising can amplify mission when guided by purpose. #NonprofitLeadership #SuccessionPlanning

Succession is an opportunity to hire for the future: not replace the past. Seek leaders who scale impact, embrace technology, and build partnerships that move the mission forward. #NonprofitLeadership #SuccessionPlanning
Throughout her career caring for children and developing medicines for rare diseases, Nerissa Kreher has met many families searching for a treatment option for their child or loved one.
For many rare and ultra-rare diseases, small patient populations can make studying each disease separately difficult. Basket trials offer another potential path, bringing together people with different diseases that share the same underlying mutation and relevant clinical characteristics.
On Labiotech’s Beyond Biotech podcast, Nerissa discusses why engineered tRNA medicines may be well suited to this approach, the clinical development of AP003, the first tRNA therapeutic to enter clinical trials, and the evidence needed to support future basket trials.

Sometimes a nonprofit’s most promising program belongs outside it. A dedicated spin-out can bring focused capital, speed, and risk tolerance: while the nonprofit retains equity, a seat at the table, and the upside.

What if the money for research reached scientists in weeks instead of years?
American scientists now spend nearly half their time on paperwork. Some grants take two years to approve.
The White House just called this out and asked for the biggest rebuild of science since 1945.
It wants funding to reach researchers directly, young scientists backed early, and people judged on their work, not their place in line. It also says AI will change how discovery happens, but the best models will stall inside institutions built for the last century.
This is the model onchain science already runs. A scientist with an agent fleet and an onchain treasury can run programs that once needed a whole institution.
The funding comes straight from the people who want the work done. Every step is recorded in the open. The scientist sets the direction, and the infrastructure carries it out.
The report is describing a future we are already building at Bio.

Would you hire you ??
Tough conversations in full transparency:
We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work on very senior level high impact positions.
We are hired to ensure that our client hires the best candidate possible.
Since we are so proactive in our approach, we often end up speaking with multiple highly qualified passionate human beings.
Some or are more qualified than others, and some are better fit than others.
If we are doing our work right, we have to make some very challenging decisions about who and who we don’t present
Telling someone that we have decided not to present their credentials can be a challenging conversation. After all, we are only a search firm, right?
There is typically one of two reactions.
I will let you guess what they are.
Some of these folks become clients for life. The others…….
However, I have found that one question often helps us level set in that question is:
If you were the hiring manager for this position, would you hire you?
Be honest, would you?
