It is easy to call out young people when they get it wrong. But how often do we stop to ask ourselves what we are teaching them by the way we conduct ourselves?
I watched the Nsangi students’ clip found myself thinking about the responsibility that comes with having a microphone, a platform and an audience. Does being young or ignorant excuse poor judgement? No. But neither does being older automatically make us better examples.
As we castigate the students, I think we need to look beyond the teenagers and take a closer look at ourselves.
Some of us who are old enough to know better have made a habit of using our platforms to ridicule, pull people down and say just about anything for engagement. We call it being bold / speaking our minds.
Then we get shocked when the younger generation picks up the same habits.
What exactly are we teaching them?
It reminds me of a mother who walks around the house in her nightdress at noon, then turns around to scold her 12-year-old for doing the same. Her point may be valid, but what example has she set?
Yes, the students must take responsibility for their actions. But so must we. If we want young people to use their voices & platforms responsibly, we must be willing to walk the talk.
We cannot keep telling the next generation to do better while giving them a front-row seat to our own very bad manners.

Its a question of HOW?
Replying to @PaulKayonga1
The future of journalism depends on our willingness to meet young people where they are, than expecting them to find their way to us. If we want to save the newsroom, we must first make journalism relevant to the next generation.

‘The Classroom May Save the Newsroom’ is a special article I read this morning by @PaulKayonga1.
For all media proprietors, managers, editors and, most importantly, journalists: you need to read this piece and listen to the arguments Paul puts forward.
The most important part of this article is how Paul presents the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) as a redemption from the elephant-in-the-room question of how we reaffirm legacy media in its zone amidst an evolving media landscape.
This nexus is not just important but fundamental; if we are struck by its carrion, we can resuscitate the now-uncertain lifeline of journalism, which hangs on oxygen.👇

Perhaps instead of pitting universities against each other, we should be having more conversations about collaboration, benchmarking and learning from one another.
The goal should be to strengthen the quality of higher education in Uganda and not prove which university is better.

Kivumbi Granted Bail in Butambala Incitement Case
NUP Deputy President for Buganda, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, has been granted bail by Butambala Chief Magistrate's Court on charges of inciting violence and managing an unlawful society.
Kivumbi had spent weeks on remand after being re-arrested in Mpigi shortly after securing bail from the International Crimes Division of the High Court in July, where he spent six months over terrorism-related charges linked to post-January 2026 election violence.
