35% of CPS schools less than half-full.
1 HS had only 28 students last yr.
CPS gets $10+ BILLION for 315,000 students
(37,000 are pre-k/k).

Montana just jacked my property taxes 60% and I’m supposed to smile and call it “reform.”
They didn’t cut spending. They didn’t shrink government. They didn’t suddenly need 60% more money to keep the lights on. They just decided some properties are now the ATM.
Primary residences get the PR photos and the “we cut taxes for 80% of homeowners” talking points. Second homes, short-term rentals, higher-value places, commercial buildings, and anyone who didn’t check the right box get the bill.
Values already exploded because every out-of-stater with a checkbook decided Montana was the new playground. Then Helena layered a new rate structure on top of it so the people who actually own the properties that got priced up get to subsidize everyone else.
Congratulations, you “shifted the burden.” That’s a polite way of saying you picked winners and losers and I lost.
A 60% increase is not inflation. It’s not “market adjustment.” It’s a policy choice dressed up as fairness. You don’t get to revalue the house, change the tax rate, float the mills, and then act shocked when people notice the check they write got a lot bigger. You built a system that punishes people for owning property that isn’t their official homestead or a long-term rental that jumped through the paperwork hoop.
Keep the press releases about “relief.” Keep telling the median homeowner they saved a few hundred bucks. Some of us just got a 60% lesson in how the math actually works when the state decides who is supposed to pay for it.
This isn’t sustainable, it isn’t honest, and it’s not going to age well when the next reassessment cycle hits. But sure. Tell me again how this was about helping Montana families.
My husband is dying of cancer, he is a veteran and served his country for people like Greg Gianforte to make millions, and now we get to shoulder another burden because of Greg Gianforte.

Allegheny County has raised the property tax by 36%
Pittsburgh has raised its property tax by 20%
Pittsburgh Public Schools raised its property tax by 2%
Now they want to raise the sales tax to cover a $1.4 billion shortfall.
This reminds me of what happened a few yrs ago. Govt demanded to come into your house to 'inspect' whether you had any rehab work done,
so they could 'upgrade' your house for purposes of hiking your property taxes.
People fought back.

Remember just yesterday when NH Democrats filed a lawsuit to stop a property tax relief voter question from going on the November 3 ballot... and LOST?
Well today they just filed an emergency order to stop the ballots from going to print... and LOST AGAIN. Why are NH Democrats panicked to let the voters have a say in their property taxes?
We all know why.
