This is simply an extraordinary study. Researchers gave $7,500 (CAD) to homeless people in Vancouver. The result? The program *saved* money. It helped many of them to move into housing faster, which saved the shelter system $8,277 per person. 🧵👇

Amazing analysis from @teamtrace using real data over time regarding use of AR 15's for self defense. It hardly happens. You know what does? Mass shootings killing a lot of people because of this lie that is causing this weapon to flood our streets. thetrace.org/2023/08/ar15-ri…

This is why, whether we're WGA members or not, this strike is huge for authors. We should support it even if it DIDN'T affect us because Always Be On The Side of Labor is a good rule, but this fight is our fight, too, make no mistake.
I asked my entertainment attorney, "If someone makes a movie/show about one of my books and then shelves it, can I ever get my rights back?" and the answer was NO. Not only are they shelving these things, they're making it so that no one else can ever make them. Ever.

Spoken like someone who's never had to eat out of a dumpster, or go to school without deodorant so their baby sister could have her asthma meds.
MF’er paid eight dollars to tweet this.

This thread is a brisk accounting of what a fucking disgrace Brexit is from a small press perspective
Time is money. If it takes twice as long to do something you earn half as much. This is the brutal fact at the heart of Brexit. Let’s "Brexit" a £12.99 paperback, blow by blow, and see what difference leaving the single market has made.

This was one of my problems with the big suit against visual AI—like, there are laws that NEED to be made, but they need to be made based on actual understanding of what is happening. Just cheering for anybody attacking the perceived enemy gets you crap law.

I have a piece in The NYT this morning. A Minneapolis suburb hired a Black chief and assistant chief. Over half the department quit. Yet the world didn’t end. If cops would rather quit than respect the people they serve, maybe it’s okay to let them go. nytimes.com/2023/07/02/opini…

Now why would Putin think it in his regime’s interests to help fund Nigel Farage? “…his bank is shutting down all his accounts, after claims in the House of Commons he received more than half a million pounds in payments from the Russian broadcaster.” thetimes.co.uk/article/nigel…

Personally, I think the appeal of Warhammer has always been its subtlety and ambiguity
i think the least interesting type of person on the planet are the ones who refuse to believe that things are about stuff unless they have an explicit confirmation signed in triplicate by the author on every page of the book

Honestly I feel like every studio who is pulling shows for “tax benefits” should be investigated by the IRS because this feels shady and suspiciously like tax fraud.
So not only was “STAR TREK: PRODIGY” canceled after only one season, but it’s being removed from the PARAMOUNT+ streaming service completely, even though season 2 hasn’t even aired yet. What an extremely drastic & disappointing course of action. ILLOGICAL, indeed.

There’s a weird victim blamey thing I’ve seen people doing where they’re like “she’s a professional, she knew what she was signing up for”. She was 23. It was one of her first jobs. She was very grateful to get the job, and didn’t think she had the right to ask for accommodations
