11 July 1804 was the date of the duel between incumbent Vice President Aaron Burr and ex-Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, who died as a result of his injuries. Burr was later dropped as VP nominee and replaced with George Clinton, who served in that job between 1805-1812.
