What can anthropology bring to leadership? Ask Will Venable '05 who is profiled in the @WSJ for leading one of @MLB most improbable turnarounds.
As an undergraduate, Venable explored baseball through an anthropological lens in his thesis, The Game and Community: An Anthropological Look at Baseball in America and Japan.
Over the past 100 years, there have been four managers who came from the Ivy League. None has won a playoff game since 1965.
Enter Will Venable. He went to Princeton to play basketball -- and is now at the helm at MLB's biggest surprise.

"As far as my thesis, or my experience taking a deeper dive in Japanese baseball, it’s just the commitment to the game and their ability and willingness to just give everything to the game."
In 2005, Will Venable authored a senior thesis titled, “The Game and Community: An Anthropological Look at Baseball in America and Japan."
Now, as manager of the @WhiteSox, he shares how his college capstone project could help transition Munetaka Murakami, a first baseman who joined the team from Japan this off-season: atmlb.com/49wePTQ (via @MLB)
