Happy to see the publication of this volume on the legal dimension of European sovereignty, which I co-edited with Peter-Christian Müller-Graff, Jean-Philippe Rageade and Viktor Vadász, in addition to contributing a chapter of my own on EU fiscal policy. link.springer.com/book/10.10…

The problem isn’t just Trump making deals with American adversary Russia, it’s Trump not thinking of Russia as an adversary at all because he only cares about what benefits him, not the country.

On behalf of the Irish EU Presidency, I strongly condemn the drone attacks on commercial vessels near Bulgaria’s coast.
As I noted at the EU General Affairs Council today, Ireland and the EU stands in full solidarity with Bulgaria.

With the US now not only providing no aid to Ukraine but also sabotaging Ukraine's efforts in countering Russia, Norway's Foreign Minister cites that its ridiculous that they're still allowed to make decisions about them.

Buying Russian diesel is an enormous mistake politically and is not going to create the kind of economic impact the White House is looking for. This entire deal contradicts clear American foreign policy and helps relegitimize a very aggressive government in Moscow.

Turns out, Elon Musk’s pimply minions didn’t actually want to cut government spending. They wanted to get a piece of it for themselves. trib.al/w90Jj6a
I suspect that, as ever, he made what he thought was the right choice for Donald J Trump. And I'm not even sure he got that right.
Amid strong bipartisan pushback to an agreement to import Russian oil, President Trump defended the deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I made the right choice for the American People,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. wapo.st/4zuzoev

Make no mistake: By cutting intelligence sharing with Ukraine and buying Russian diesel, the United States is actively helping Russia wage its war against Ukraine and kill its people.
Shame on every Republican in Congress who knows better but is too cowardly to act.
BREAKING: Ukraine received no early warning from its partners before Russia launched ballistic missiles at civilian infrastructure in Kyiv last night, President Zelenskyy says.
This comes after reports over the weekend that the Trump administration considered cutting off intelligence sharing with Ukraine unless Kyiv stopped striking Russian oil refineries.
At least 2 people were killed and 9 injured in a Russian strike on a residential building in Kyiv.

Any single individual having this amount of influence in our elections does not lead to a healthy democracy. It doesn’t matter if they are supporting Democrats or Republicans. We need a serious effort at campaign finance reform and have to overturn the Citizens United decision.

Elon Musk, the platform owner himself, got caught red-handed spreading a transparently fake story about a Democratic candidate secretly being committed to a mental hospital in Ohio. The claim fell apart instantly when the hospital denied it and the candidate stated he’d never even been there. Instead of admitting he trafficked in obvious nonsense, Musk immediately pivoted to attacking the candidate for having "troubling" views on capitalism. Quite a switch when your big "scoop" turns out to be pure fabrication.
This isn't just some random internet troll. Musk is the midterms’ biggest donor, having poured $276 million into Republican coffers, and he uses his control of a massive information source to personally amplify politically motivated lies. He profits if his preferred party wins, and he's shown he'll invent scandals and fearmonger when actual facts don't materialize. "Free speech" looks a lot like a megaphone for his own agenda and lies, especially with trust and safety guardrails conveniently gone. motherjones.com/politics/202…

This video is extraordinary to watch again now.
In 2019, @JMPSimor explained to @mrjamesob the constitutional paradox at the heart of Brexit: the referendum was advisory, so the courts would not quash the result, even though the legal challenge argued it had been tainted by proven unlawful campaigning. She told @LBC that, had the referendum been legally binding, the result could have been set aside.
So Britain was left with this absurd position:
The referendum was not legally binding enough to be invalidated but it was treated politically as binding enough to take us out of the European Union.
And that was not the only unresolved constitutional issue.
My own 2018 judicial review, Webster v Secretary of State for Exiting the EU, challenged the missing Article 50(1) decision, the lawful decision to withdraw that had to precede notification. Parliament expressly authorised notification under Article 50(2), but never expressly enacted that antecedent decision.
The courts refused permission in both cases.
Now we are being told by the Prime Minister @andyburnham that Russia interfered in the 2016 referendum. This changes the context again.
It does not automatically undo Brexit. But it makes one thing impossible to avoid:
Britain needs a statutory public inquiry into the referendum, the intelligence, and the Article 50 decision-making process.
We need documents. Witnesses under oath. The Cabinet record. The intelligence assessments. The legal trail.
Because ten years on, the question is no longer simply whether Brexit was right or wrong. It is whether the British public and Parliament were ever told the full truth about how it happened.
I agree. It is absolutely insane that European defence is effectively in the hands of a billionaire with his own right-wing agenda, which may or may not coincide with Europe's strategic needs.

Oggi Musk ha minacciato di bloccare Starlink alle truppe ucraine. Che lo faccia o no importa poco: basta la minaccia a dimostrare che nessun governo deve affidare i propri sistemi strategici a un miliardario psicolabile.
Guai a farlo.

Andrew Scott delivers this speech too slowly; I know some viewers will hate the way he breaks up the verse. AND YET even in spite of that I think this is the best delivery of this soliloquy I’ve ever seen.
He makes it sound like it’s not a portentous speech everyone already knows but a morally serious real-time deliberation, by a highly intelligent person in extreme pain, considering what it would mean to end his own life.

Appalling news.
Ballistic missiles hit Kyiv last night with no warning. The US shared no intel, says Ukraine's Air Force.
If the US cut early warning, it's using Ukrainian civilians as leverage, even if Ukraine abided by the energy ceasefire.
The US is shifting sides.

It looks like Putin told Trump that Ukraine was causing high gas prices, a lie that is convenient for Trump. Obviously it’s Trump’s war in Iran that is the issue. But Trump can’t accept that.
So now Trump wants to give Putin a lot of money for Russian diesel, which won’t do anything to markets and won’t even help him in the midterms, though I bet Putin told him it would.
But since Russia and Iran are allies, the shift in US policy and any US taxpayer money that Trump gives Putin will help both the Russian war on Ukraine as well as the regime in Iran. Trump got his pocket picked as usual but the money is ours and the deeper price is the visible shift of US policy to support Russia’s war of aggression.
In other words, Trump makes the world more dangerous by extending two wars and gets nothing in return, not even for himself (unless there was a side deal, which can’t be ruled out).
