This website increasingly feels to me like Facebook did maybe a decade ago. An orgy of arguments, inflammatory everything, bots, and civilization destabilizers. This is it for me, I should have left long ago, will leave the DMs open. A short final thread. . .

I'm excited about this.
But this is also a good time to start talking about road tolling and congestion pricing.
The politics make this difficult to apply to human drivers, but there should not constituency opposed to congestion pricing applied exclusively to autonomous vehicles.
Fleets of autonomous cars will represent a large percentage of road use in 10 years.
We may as well start monetizing this now.

Just got back from europe and the streetcars in the city I was in move so much faster than ours, on both the streetcar dedicated tracks and on mixEd use lanes. No slowing down/stopping at intersections, no crawling around curves.

The power of unstoppable S-curves: 49 countries hit record Electric Vehicles sales shares in 2026. It's not what you’d expect:
>Viet Nam’s peak share now tops China’s and Sweden’s
>Thailand beats Germany and the UK
>Uruguay beats France
Completely missing: the US, at 6%

BREAKING: Gasoline-only cars fall below 50% of global new vehicle sales for the first time in history.
‘Big money’ requires big trade offs. With no publicly available cost benefit analysis, with the PBO indicating we are more likely to see cost per km as the UK & USA than Europe, I think it fair that people should ask for better than ‘trust us’ or ‘big things cost big money’.

Young journalist looking for a niche? The transportation space needs you. I learn from Reece’s posts but the issues he identifies rarely end up as “news”. Light is the best disinfectant and too much of what happens remains in the dark with nobody made to answer hard questions.

As @RM_Transit has highlighted, Bergen's LRT is great, but its buses are world class.
The TTC has no excuse on the easy fixes: better bus signal priority, proper stop spacing, and warm lighting, not blinding fluorescents.
Harder things include Bergen's complete absence of mandatory boarding validation is a result of an incredibly high-trust society that has virtually no fare evasion.

“This says it all: The headways provided today are, in most cases, wider (aka less service) than those pre-pandemic. TTC claims that service is “back to 100%”, but this is measured by vehicle hours which include the effect of slower operation in traffic and longer recovery time provisions at terminals. What riders see is how often a bus shows up, and that determines a route’s capacity and wait times.
Mayoral candidates talk a good line about defending Scarborough transit, but the actual decline of service over the past decade is never mentioned. stevemunro.ca/2026/10/10/is-…

And that’s what induced demand/traffic evaporation looks like at the individual level
People decide to make trips or not make trips based on the anticipated quality of the journey

In 2018, the CAQ were elected with a promise to implement proportional representation, they reneged after winning a majority with 37% of the vote.
Now, despite winning over 500,000 votes, the party lost every seat.
All politicans should treat this as a lesson.

We're releasing the results of our Toronto 2026 Election Survey on platform doors...we received 51 responses.
Only two incumbents responded (Myers and Moise)...do with that information what you will...
None of the three main candidates for mayor responded...
If we receive anymore responses we will update every week between now and the election...
