בכל פעם כשאני כותב על כך שרוב מוחלט מתושבי מזרח ירושלים הם לא אזרחי מדינת ישראל מתחילות התגובות שזה בעצם באשמת הפלסטינים שלא ביקשו אזרחות.
אז אחת ולתמיד הנה רשימת התירוצים (החלקית מאוד מאוד) של רשות האוכלוסין למה לא לתת אזרחות לתושבי ירושלים, ילידי העיר, שחיים בה כל חייהם:
- אישה סורבה בגלל שלאבא של בעלה הייתה דירה מחוץ לירושלים. הדירה נמכרה עוד לפני שהיא התחתנה, אבל היא לא הצליחה לספק למשרד הפנים מסמכים לגבי מי רכש את הדירה.
- אדם סורב בגלל תיק פלילי על סכסוך שכנים, שנסגר ללא כתב אישום שנים לפני שהגיש בקשת ההתאזרחות.
- אישה שאמרה בראיון ברשות האוכלוסין שהיא משאירה את הילד שלך אצל חמותה כשהיא הולכת לאוניברסיטה, אבל בראיון של אבא שלה הוא אמר שהילד נשאר אצל אמה שלה.
- צעיר שלא היה לו קו טלפון קווי אז הוא לא הצליח להציג חשבון טלפון.
- אדם שבעל הבית שלו לא הסכים לתת לו מסמך שמפרט את כל הדיירים שגרים בבניין שלו.
- אדם שפעם אחת הסיע את אמא שלו לביקור אצל אחיו בבית הכלא.
- אדם שגר בפחון, ללא חיבור לרשת הטלפון והחשמל ולכן הוא לא יכול להציג חשבונות.
- אישה שמדברת עברית אבל אחרי ראיון של כמה דקות הפקידה החליטה שהעברית לא מספיק טובה.
- צעיר שהיה בן 13 כאשר הוריו התחילו את תהליך ההתאזרחות, אבל התהליך הסתיים כשהוא היה מעל 18 אז הוא צריך להתחיל מחדש.
- אדם שעשה לייק לפני שנים לפוסט פרו-פלסטיני.
- אדם שלאשתו (שהיא אזרחית!) היה בפייסבוק באנר של נכבה והבן שלהם, שהיה בן 7 הצטלם פעם עם דגל פלסטין.
- עשרות אלפי צעירים שהיו אמורים לקבל אזרחות אוטומטית בגיל 21 על פי סעיף 4 א' לחוק האזרחות. המדינה פשוט מתעלמת מהסעיף.

ילדה שהוריה הגישו בקשה, עד שהבקשה נידונה היא הייתה מעל 18 וסירבו לה, היא הגישה שוב בקשה ואמרו לה שהיא לא יודעת מספיק טוב עברית למרות שהיא עשתה כמה קורסים ברמות גבוהות (עצם העובדה שזה תנאי לילידי ירושלים ולא לעולים חדשים מכל מקום בעולם היא הזיה).
בכל מקרה, האישה הגישה עתירה לבית המשפט. במשפט, רשות האוכלוסין ירדה מדרישת העברית אבל אז אמרו לה שאין לה מרכז חיים כי לא יתכן שהיא גרה בקומת קרקע שהיא גם חניון ושהיא לא מכירה מספיק טוב את שמות השכנים וילדיהם.
האישה הגישה עוד עתירה. הפעם למחוזי. המחוזי דחה את העתירה.
היא הגישה ערעור לעליון שהתקבל והיא קיבלה אזרחות.
רוב התושבים לא מסוגלים להתמודד עם ההר הזה וארגוני זכויות האדם בירושלים לא עוסקים בזה כי זה השאלה האם נכון לאפשר התאזרחות של תושבי מזרח ירושלים שנויה במחלוקת פוליטית.
אז מכאן ואילך בבקשה - זה לא שהפלסטינים לא מבקשים אזרחות, זה ישראל שלא נותנת.

Last week I was in Cuba. We bore witness to the impacts of the over six decades long U.S. blockade and siege on the people of Cuba. We brought donated medical supplies, medications, and other essential items but this is not a sustainable solution.
The people of Cuba are struggling immensely. There is a dire lack of energy and fuel, leading to blackouts and water shortages. Food costs are high, people can’t afford to feed their families. Medication is unavailable or on extremely short supply.
This blockade maintained by the U.S. must end. Today there was a United Nations resolution on condemning the economic embargo imposed on Cuba. Canada must do more to support the people of Cuba as they continue to suffer the consequences of Western imperialism and interference with their sovereignty, independence, and self-determination. Let Cuba live! 🇨🇺

Mercedes interned with the U.S military and has a national security background. The people of Canada absolutely cannot rely on people like her to do independent checks on power, let alone be an objective chief correspondent of a major news organization
An example of this is an interview from 2012, which was months before Canada cut its diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mercedes joined a campaign with Zionist talking heads like National Post to turn Iran's call for diaspora mobilization into a national security threat.
What they fail to reveal is that the U.S/Canada western alliance had been building pressure on Iran for months and expanded their sanctions on Iran and its people. In 2010-2011 they froze property in Canada and restricted exports. As an extremely important context, during this time, Canadian and Israeli relations were getting stronger alongside these escalations.

The most honest statement ever made about Cuba policy came from a State Department memo in 1960, written before the sanctions were fully implemented.
The memo, written by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Lester Mallory, stated that the U.S. should pursue a policy to bring about hunger, desperation, and overthrow of the Cuban government.
Not: respond to "Cuban repression."
Not: protect Cuban human rights.
Not: promote democracy.
Hunger. Desperation. Overthrow.
This memo is declassified. It is in the historical record. It is not disputed.
It means that every subsequent year of sanctions, every subsequent citation of Cuban poverty and dysfunction as evidence of socialist failure, every subsequent American official expressing concern for the welfare of the Cuban people:
All of it happened downstream of a documented decision to deliberately produce hunger and desperation in that population.
This is not a conspiracy theory.
It is a declassified government document.
The conspiracy was the policy.
The theory was written in plain English by an American official in 1960 and has been implemented faithfully for 66 years since.
What they wanted to prove, they engineered the conditions to prove.
And then they called it evidence.

Can someone explain like I'm 5 why it would be strategic for Iran to light up a couple of Bagels etc. franchises or whatever
Today CBC published an article with the headline: “Why a spate of gun-for-hire shootings in Toronto were likely paid for by Iran.”
I was intrigued, as there has been almost 0 evidence offered for this claim thus far.
Unfortunately this article doesn’t offer any either, adding nothing new. CBC says they spent weeks on the investigation, so these are pretty pitiful results, at least in terms of finding evidence of who paid for the shootings.
I’m not sure why they feel comfortable with such a declarative headline given the lack of evidence (other than journalistic standards going out the window when the subject is an Official Enemy country).
Also, CBC and other journalists continue platforming police claims that they need backdoor access to messaging apps to solve these shootings, with no push back or critique about how these powers can be abused, including against journalists.
