Eng Shammah Kiteme: It is documented that 35% of buildings are collapsing because of poor workmanship, 28% are collapsing because of substandard materials, and 25% are collapsing because of poor structural design. The easiest way for us to address the issue of collapsing buildings is to have structural engineers who are qualified, licensed, experienced, and knowledgeable about the science of construction materials #CitizenMondayReport

So how did they manage to go to court and secure permits? Does it mean @Kenyajudiciary now processes building permits?

The blatant disregard for due process has turned Nairobi’s construction industry into the wild west, with calamities such as the recent collapse of a multi-storeyed building in Eastleigh becoming too commonplace.
In Parklands, contractors are busy at work despite court orders halting further construction. Some of the developers are alleged to be prominent politicians using their positions to circumvent the law.
According to the Parklands Residents Association, Hon Umulkher Mohammed has continued construction works at her school, Baitul Hikma School, in contravention of stop orders issued by the court. The property is also said to be under armed police protection.
On another site, the Governor of Mandera has blatantly disregarded court orders to cease putting up a multi-storey project on land allegedly grabbed from North Highridge School.
The culture of lawlesness embraced by the political class and their cronies has got to end once and for all. Lives are literally at stake. #SemaUkweli

Construction work at Taza Lane, City Park Drive Parklands by Hon. Umulkher Mohammed of Baitul Hikma School going on today 24/10/26 even as Sakaja and his people are at Eastleigh where the 18-level building collapsed. County government and also NCA, have confirmed in court pleadings that no development approvals were granted. The Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamed and his officers have refused to enforce the stop orders as ordered by ELC Judge citing orders from above.
Two weeks ago, several parents withdrew their children from the school after they noticed poor workmanship and also got very worried of the daily presence of armed GSU police officers who are supervising construction.

We must take the chaos and insanity of unplanned development .
Naturally these lot will fight back with everything they have including miss information & propaganda. If indeed they are very right, why did the High court rule against them?
Follow the case, we expect nothing but journalistic diligence and verify every single piece of information.
Today through this court Petition, for the first time in Kenya, a neighborhood community has been granted a chance to develop their very own Local Physical Development Plan (LPDP) as envisioned in the PLUPA Act 2019.
Most importantly give a right of reply to the mentioned parties .
In the mean you may need to follow the case files as per this Advertisement.
Follow our page and see documented evidence of the mess the unplanned & illegal developments have caused in a once lash and serene neighborhood. Nobody is against development; but it must be legal and sustainable.

Dear Parklanders,
Our ELC case and courts orders have come to effect from Oct 14th 2026.
Please read the article below and reshare within your local social networks.
Summary:-
*Development Permissions in Parklands Area Now Null and Void.*
All development approvals applied for or granted for properties in the Parklands area are now null and void, according to a notice issued by the Parklands Residents Association following Nairobi City County Government’s failure to comply with court orders requiring the establishment of a planning forum and the preparation of development plans for the area.
In a notice dated October 15, 2026, the association reminded parties named in Petition No. E012 of 2025 of a judgment delivered by the Environment and Land Court in Nairobi on October 14, 2025. The judgment directed the county government to establish and operationalise the County Physical and Land Use Planning Consultative Forum within six months and prepare and gazette the County Physical and Land Use Development Plan and the Local Physical and Land Use Development Plan for Parklands within 12 months.
The court, comprising Justices O. A. Angote, A. Omollo and C. G. Mbogo, declared that Nairobi City County Government had failed to establish the consultative forum as required under Section 14 of the Physical and Land Use Planning Act, 2019.
It also ruled that the actions and omissions of the county government and relevant county officials concerning developments in Parklands since August 2019 had violated residents’ constitutional rights to human dignity and a clean and healthy environment under Articles 28 and 42 of the Constitution.
Under the judgment, the county government was required to establish and operationalise the consultative forum within six months and submit a compliance report to the court within that period. It was also directed to prepare and gazette the two development plans within 12 months, in accordance with the law.
According to the association’s notice, the deadline for establishing the consultative forum expired on April 14, 2026, while the deadline for preparing and gazetting the development plans expired on October 14, 2026.
The association states that the required forum had not been legally constituted and operationalised and that neither of the two development plans was in place when the deadlines expired.
Consequently, the notice states that development approvals applied for or granted for properties in Parklands with effect from October 15, 2026, are null and void.
The affected approvals include those relating to changes and extensions of use, increased development density, lease extensions and renewals, subdivision and amalgamation of properties, demolitions, building works, easements, wayleaves, and certificates of compliance and occupation.
The court had expressly ordered that failure to comply with its directives on the consultative forum and development plans would render approvals issued after the expiry of the 12-month period null and void.
The petition was filed by Kamalkumar Rajinkant Sangahani, Jags Kaur and Teddy Obiero on behalf of the Parklands Residents Association against Nairobi City County Government and several county officials responsible for planning and development.
The other parties named in the proceedings include the National Land Commission, the Director-General responsible for Physical and Land Use Planning, professional associations representing planners, surveyors and architects, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance, the Kenya Alliance of Residents Associations, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, the Land Registrar for Nairobi, the ministry responsible for lands and urban development, and the National Environment Management Authority, among other interested parties

This morning, as has become the norm, Parklands residents woke up to find fresh piles of debris from construction sites and madafu husks and waste from roadside vendors dumped into the river.
We keep convening meetings and talking about flooding in Parklands, but we must ask ourselves - who is actually contributing to it? This indiscriminate dumping is choking the river, blocking its natural flow, and is a direct cause of the flooding we experience.
Our team has documented this, reported it numerous times, but without enforcement nothing will change. Governor Sakaja, Parklands residents are yearning for real change. You visited us and saw the rot firsthand. Now you know where the problem is - we need action.
With zero enforcement, nothing will ever change @SakajaJohnson we need changes at the sub county offices ASAP. Why do we clean if all these efforts will go to waste.

A huge oversight by the organizers ; leaving out the most important stakeholders . THE CITY DWELLERS.

Please reach out for and add us to your contact list.
This is already against the constitutional guidelines as per the Article 10.
Everything discussed did not take into consideration the views of the residents.
