किंतु पति का शव तो राम-दल में पड़ा हुआ था। फिर वह कैसे सती होती? जब अपने ससुर रावण से उसने अपना अभिप्राय कहकर अपने पति का शव मँगवाने के लिए कहा, तब रावण ने उत्तर दिया- "देवी ! तुम स्वयं ही राम-दल में जाकर अपने पति का शव प्राप्त करो।
जिस समाज में बालब्रह्मचारी हनुमान, परम जितेन्द्रिय लक्ष्मण तथा एकपत्नीव्रती भगवान श्रीराम विद्यमान हैं, उस समाज में तुम्हें जाने से डरना नहीं चाहिए। मुझे विश्वास है कि इन स्तुत्य महापुरुषों के द्वारा तुम निराश नहीं लौटायी जाओगी।"
सुलोचना के आने का समाचार सुनते ही श्रीराम खड़े हो गये और स्वयं चलकर सुलोचना के पास आये और बोले- "देवी, तुम्हारे पति विश्व के अन्यतम योद्धा और पराक्रमी थे। उनमें बहुत-से सदगुण थे; किंतु विधी की लिखी को कौन बदल सकता है। आज तुम्हें इस तरह देखकर मेरे मन में पीड़ा हो रही है। सुलोचना भगवान की स्तुति करने लगी।
श्रीराम ने उसे बीच में ही टोकते हुए कहा- "देवी, मुझे लज्जित न करो। पतिव्रता की महिमा अपार है, उसकी शक्ति की तुलना नहीं है। मैं जानता हूँ कि तुम परम सती हो। तुम्हारे सतित्व से तो विश्व भी थर्राता है। अपने स्वयं यहाँ आने का कारण बताओ, बताओ कि मैं तुम्हारी किस प्रकार सहायता कर सकता हूँ?
सुलोचना ने अश्रुपूरित नयनों से प्रभु की ओर देखा और बोली- "राघवेन्द्र, मैं सती होने के लिये अपने पति का मस्तक लेने के लिये यहाँ पर आर्इ हूँ। श्रीराम ने शीघ्र ही ससम्मान मेघनाद का शीश मंगवाया और सुलोचना को दे दिया।
