We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math.
It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training.
We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! 🧵

some things I often say to claude when doing perf optimization work:
> how do we rewrite this to better leverage data-oriented design principles
> can you replace those hash tables with a flat array? can we make the pointers an index into the array? can we pack the most commonly used data into upper bits of the index?
> caching is cope for a slow design. do not add caches and delete all existing caches. instead, redesign it to be faster
> should this be a structure of arrays instead of an array of structures?
Anthropic may be preparing a major Claude upgrade.
A leak from @kimmonismus reports Claude Opus 5.6 is coming with Mythos and Fable 5.5.
The leaked numbers:
-61 on the AA Index
-90% on SWE
-81% on RiemannBench
-20% cheaper
The new model is also said to be less robotic, less picky, and more natural to talk to with higher usage limits
Yann LeCun was right & nobody in this industry wants to say it out loud.
109 million parameters beat 72 billion.
He has spent years saying scale is not the thing that makes a model understand the world. Meta bet the other way. He left in November and started his own lab in Paris.
Last Thursday he published the proof.
The theory everyone has been running on since 2024 is that if you train models big enough, on text, on images, on sound, they all end up with the same picture of reality inside them. Size does it. Nobody ever proved that part.
Randall Balestriero and LeCun proved it. And the proof says size was never doing the work.
What does the work is which two things you show a model together.
A photo and the caption of that photo are two views of one thing. Models trained on pairs like that get there fast.
Two paragraphs pulled from the same document are not two views of one thing. Models trained on those get there slowly and expensively.
Next word prediction is the second kind. That is what every chatbot in the world runs on.
In their tests the first method reached the same understanding after 21.6 million examples. Next word prediction needed 900 million.
And a 109 million parameter text model ended up closer to an image model's view of the world than a 72 billion parameter language model was.
660 times smaller.

We’ve trained Claude to flag potential misuse in conversations, a technique we call self-assessment. Right after it responds, Claude gives a preliminary safety assessment of the conversation.
Since we began using self-assessment in June, it has surfaced misuse that our other safeguards weren’t designed to catch.
Because Claude has already read the conversation, self-assessment is very efficient. And unlike classifiers, which target a discrete set of harms, it draws on Claude’s own judgment, so it gets more accurate as our models improve.

Claude Code users, if you didn’t know, Herdr now has its 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗽𝗽.
Install it, and Opus 5.5 can coordinate 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟬 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 through Herdr: Claude Code writes the code, nitpick-obsessed Codex Astra reviews it, and the app comes with a perfect dashboard built in.
Hand off the heavy implementation work to Claude Code, including polishing your pages’ layout, interactions, and visual details.
Set it up once. Here’s how 👇
1. Open Claude Code and install Herdr and its Skill
Select Opus 5.5 and ask it to run these two commands (Mac):
curl -fsSL releases.herdr.dev/app/insta… | sh
hc --skill
Once installed, have Opus 5.5 confirm that hc works.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲. Herdr manages the workers in the background, so you don’t have to switch interfaces.
2. Have Opus 5.5 finish the setup
Paste this prompt:
“Use the official Herdr docs and the instructions from hc --skill and herdr-app --skill to create a coordination Skill called herdr-desktop. Keep the main conversation in this Claude Code session and use hc to manage background workers. Don’t require me to operate inside a Herdr terminal.
Start separately named background workers for this task, explicitly setting the working directory. Check whether Claude Code CLI and Codex CLI are installed. If either is missing, install it. If authentication is needed, ask me to sign in.
After authentication, start one Codex worker using Astra, with reasoning effort explicitly set to xhigh. Give it a read-only task: inspect the project and explain its main entry points. Run Codex with --no-daemon and allow network access in its sandbox, or it can’t reach hc. The first time it starts in a new folder, it asks whether to trust that folder. If it gets stuck there, tell me. Wait for it to finish and read back its actual response to confirm that task dispatch and result retrieval work. If the model or configuration is unavailable, tell me. Don’t silently substitute another.
When the Herdr app is open, put the workers in a space so I can see them in the sidebar.
Save the verified startup, dispatch, wait, and result-reading procedures in the Skill. Don’t modify project code during setup.”
3. Sign in to your Codex account
Opus 5.5 will check Codex’s login status.
If needed, follow the prompts to authenticate with your ChatGPT account.
After that, you keep assigning tasks in Claude Code, while Codex runs in the background using your ChatGPT account’s allowance.
4. Tell Opus 5.5 how to delegate
Paste this prompt:
“From now on, use this workflow:
You are the coordinator.
→ Handle project understanding, planning, task decomposition, integration, and final review. Make the best decision that will elevate all three: the user experience (UX), developer experience (DX), and agent experience (AX) always, without breaking anything.
→ When a task needs substantial implementation, debugging, test fixes, or multi-file changes, delegate it to Claude Code through herdr-desktop. For frontend work, have it refine the layout, visual details, and actual interactions. Give it this rule: Do not design for rare or future cases nobody asked about.
Use Opus 5.5 for Claude Code workers and Astra for Codex workers, both with reasoning effort explicitly set to xhigh.
Briefly explain the division of work, then start independent tasks in parallel. Choose concurrency based on the task, machine load, and available allowance, up to 10 workers. You don’t need to use all 10.
Give each task a clear objective, working directory, necessary context, deliverable, and completion criteria. Use separate worktrees for parallel code changes. You own the integration.
Send follow-up feedback to the original worker whenever possible and continue its existing conversation. Don’t start over every round.
After a worker finishes, inspect the actual changes yourself and run the necessary checks after integration. For page changes, open the browser and check them.
After code changes, hand the review to a Codex worker that didn’t work on the implementation, with this rule: Rate each bug from 1 to 10 on how often it would happen and how bad it would be. If the two scores multiplied are below 5, just file it as an issue and leave the code alone.
Don’t treat a task as finished just because another agent says it is.
At the end, show me the result, what was verified, and any unresolved issues. Release task resources that are no longer needed while preserving the work and records needed to continue.”
A few tips:
1. Save the delegation instructions from step 4 in herdr-desktop too, so you can invoke the Skill at the start of future tasks.
2. Pair the Skill with a clear end goal. For example: “Finish this pricing page, keep it consistent with the existing site, and check the mobile layout and plan switching.”
3. Each account still has its own usage limits. Adjust concurrency to the task and remaining allowance.
4. For long tasks, keep a record of progress, key decisions, and next steps. When switching conversations, check the actual state before continuing.
It works the other way around, too: Codex coordinates, and Claude Code executes. Swap the roles and their corresponding settings.
Google just open-sourced the plugin thousands of its engineers use every day to stop AI from shipping sloppy code.
It's called the Elephant-Goldfish Model.
No code until the plan survives. No AI grading its own homework. No context collapse halfway through a feature.
The idea is simple and kind of brilliant.
The Elephant is one long-running AI session that remembers everything: the architecture, the intent, every small decision. It writes zero code. It interviews you, argues with you, and keeps the record.
The Goldfish are fresh AI sessions with no memory at all. They never saw your design conversation, so they don't inherit its blind spots.
Here's how it works:
→ egm-brainstorm: you and the Elephant debate options under a strict no-code rule
→ egm-draft: you produce a Markdown design doc with the problem, the plan, the alternatives, and the exact files to change
→ egm-review: one Goldfish has to explain the design back. If it gets it wrong, the doc is ambiguous and goes back for redrafting
→ Then several Goldfish attack it as hostile reviewers hunting edge cases, hidden dependencies and logic gaps
→ A final Goldfish makes the go/no-go call: are file paths, data structures and function signatures all present and unambiguous?
Here's why this matters:
Google's team says AI made coding faster but also sped up slop, bugs and session context collapse. Speed without guardrails just scales your mistakes.
This flips the order. The design gets attacked before a single line exists.
Here's the wildest part:
This isn't a research demo. Google says thousands of Googlers run it daily to ship production code.
The repo ships the Markdown rules, the reviewer personas and the review workflows. Free, Apache 2.0.
The honest trade-off: it only runs inside Antigravity for now, with other environments coming. And security isn't on the default reviewer list. You'd add your own security Goldfish.

David Sacks
Andrej Karpathy’s setup from his HackerTube blog today:
- “I use Claude Code (desktop app for Mac).”
As I’ve been saying, terminal is the wrong interface for coding agents. Desktop apps are the best interface today.
- “I use Opus 5.5 on Medium effort as my default.”
There’s no point to use the smartest model at the highest reasoning effort for most tasks.
