The powdered wig and knee breeches are comfortably worn. The pragmatic politics of Nelson Rockefeller are forlorn. When the nation yearns for a Republican Renaissance, I'll be reborn. William Pitt the Younger still lives, there is no need to mourn. The Tories shall not be torn.

Absolute failure. Was hoping Trump would go away forever after the 2020 election. Tried to connect with Never Trumpers. All flushed down the drain. Just screaming into the abyss. Do you remember when you joined X? I do! #MyXAnniversary

Sometimes morals don't line up with practical action. For example, the moral action is for the UK to invade any former colony that demands reparations. But, with otherwise friendly relations, and bigger threats do deal with, it would be best to just tell them to fuck off.

The CANZUK countries should have easier visas for each other. That Burnham and Albanese are working to make them harder shows that they hate their own countries.
šŸšØšŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ NEW: Andy Burnham and Anthony Albanese are set to discuss increasing restrictions on British backpackers using Working Holiday Visas in Australia Proposals include removing an exemption that means Brits don’t have to do rural work to extend their visa as well as the introduction of a migration cap

He's obviously talking about the Antiguan PM, who said he wants Antigua and Barbuda to become a Republic. The Daily Express is not even worthy of being a tabloid at this point
The King bumped into Sir Idris Elba on a Visit to a historic naval base, with the famous British actor telling him ā€œsorry about the Prime Minister.ā€ The actor asked: ā€œHow are you doing though, are you having a good time? Sorry about the prime minister.ā€ The actor was likely referring to Andy Burnham’s comments saying he was ā€œopenā€ to apologising for Britain’s role in the slave trade.

The flattery goes both ways in this administration.
Trump: Pete Hegseth is a good-looking guy. I think they’re all great-looking, in their own way. Marco Rubio is a great, hot politician. JD, the same thing.

I get up and get to work because I'm a compassionate and loving partner. I even initiate if I don't want to to show interest. Imagine waiting until you're starving to cook dinner. Sometimes cooking whets your appetite.
Ok lads: imagine you aren’t horny at all. Not even slightly. You’re busy fixing a shelf or ironing your suit or watching your favourite TV show. Zero sexy feelings. Your girlfriend sighs loudly and goes ā€œcan we have sex nowā€ in whingy voice and then grabs your ass. She then sulks and starts whining when you aren’t instantly aroused and into it and starts saying you haven’t had sex for 3 days. Annoying? Not very sexy? GOOD YOU UNDERSTAND WHY PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE INSTA-HORNY BEHAVIOUR IS ANNOYING

This ā€œmean tweetsā€ line of argument are among the most facile. To say that Trump’s actions haven’t been extreme is to say that naked corruption, an illegal war, lying about an election and then trying to overturn the results, and then pardoning the violent protestors who sacked the capitol, weaponizing the DOJ, siding with dictators over democracies, putting masked agents on the streets who have shot Americans, that none of that is extreme behavior. Which is a genuinely insane position. And obviously that’s just scratching the surface off the top of my head.
"Trump said extreme things, therefore we get to DO extreme things" -- the D position for the rest of time.

Yep, and Dems need to go on the warpath. Impeach & convict RFK, Mullin. If that works, move onto Trump and Vance. Disqualify and imprison them. Expel anyone who gets in the way.
Fwiw: If Democrats want to block Trump’s judicial nominees, their magic number in the Senate is 52, not 51. I think you know why.

BREAKING: šŸ‡§šŸ‡Ŗ Belgian king rejects PM’s resignation The king refused to accept the prime minister’s resignation and instructed him to continue budget negotiations. Prime Minister Bart De Wever informed King Philippe of his decision to resign over the failure of budget talks.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
King Philippe did not reject De Wever's resignation. He took it under consideration ("in beraad") and deferred his decision until after a new meeting with the prime minister on Friday. yahoo.com/news/politics/… nos.nl/artikel/263772…

No joke, I really do believe raising your children in line with MAGA, religious conservative, or traditional 'morality' turns them into liberals.
"I have apparently raised a Democrat." Vice President JD Vance gets a laugh as he reveals his 4-year-old daughter tried to donate two of her brother's toys to the family's Toys for Tots drive. Vance jokes that despite his best efforts, his daughter is already taking someone else's belongings to give away. Download the FOX News app for the latest details: foxnews.com/download?intcmp=…

What's funny about me is that I'm a hardcore Anglophile while hating all these cultural exports.
What actually happened here was the target audience for this stuff got oneshotted by woke in the late 2010s, and both Britain itself and many of our main cultural exports became 'problematic' to them

I hate folks who vaguely say ā€œthe system was attacked in 2020ā€ (without mentioning Trump), & downplaying that it was one of the most dangerous constitutional moments in US history. Since then, the Trump GOP purged almost all those who saved us back then. That’s the danger now.
The system was attacked in 2020, but the system held. The courts, the governors, the state-level election officials and Congress all played the roles they were designed to play.

The most important aspect of these changes is negative. They're too hard on what I would call 'useful' immigrants. Meanwhile, the savings from 'useless' migrants remains unclear. Basically, it makes things harder for professors or corporate directors, without saving money.
🚨 SUMMARY: Shabana Mahmood's reforms to settlement in the UK for migrants - Social care migrants who arrived before May 2025, earn at least £25,000 and meet their visa conditions will keep the 5 year wait to settlement, a U-turn on the proposed 15 years after Labour backlash - Social care migrants who don't meet the above will be given a "second chance" and face a 10 year wait - In another U-turn, 136,000 dependants of the eligible care workers will face a 5 year wait alongside their partners rather than having to qualify independently - Migrants who didn't arrive by small boat will face a 10 year wait if they work or study, or 20 years if they don't. Small boat migrants will face a 20 year wait if they work or study, rising to 30 years if they don't - The highest earners (£125,141+) will face a 3 year wait - Doctors, nurses, teachers earning over £50,271 and refugees arriving through safe and legal routes will face a 5 year wait if they arrived before May 2025 - The standard wait for most other legal migrants will increase from 5 to 10 years, down from the proposed 15 years - Migrants who breach visa rules or claim certain benefits will face a 20 year wait - Migrants will also no longer be banned from claiming benefits after gaining settlement - Anyone applying for settlement will need a clean criminal record, higher English language proficiency, no outstanding debts to the taxpayer and a record of sustained National Insurance contributions

Because you have to have a low time preference if you are going to govern the sort of country (or other unit of human organization) that will devote resources to building a beautiful cathedral it will never see, and that style of government simply doesn't co-exist with democracy It takes aristocracy or monarchy to build such things, for they are the only forms of government with the time horizons to see such investments in the future as more important than welfare programs in the present Take a different cathedral than the one pictured: The foundation stone of Cologne Cathedral was laid in 1248. The cathedral was finished in 1880, 632 years later. No man who began it saw it finished. No man who worked on it saw it finished...for six centuries. They built it anyway. A people ought build great and glorious things for men it will never meet. That is a way to pass down the values and virtues of your world so that those in the future live by a similar code and see the importance of doing so. It is a way of making a durable civilizational inheritance that, like an estate, can be passed from one generation to the next Notably, our world of democracy and death taxes abhors the concept of a multi-generational inheritance, preferring EBT for Wingstop, and so we don't build such things anymore
Why did humans stop building wonders?

I'd prefer if candidates did things like this instead of debates.
A panelist read Nixon a letter in 1968 about a proposed 50% increase in Social Security. Stop inflation first, he said, because generosity that raises prices is "robbing the poor." Full 1968 broadcast, "The Nixon Answer," from Detroit: youtu.be/-Dg6yfOpYYY
