Channel 4 Dispatches went undercover inside the Financial Ombudsman Service @financialombuds. What they filmed should have shut the place down. Their own staff said this on camera: "I'm not proud to admit it but I've done it myself. Just taken a chance and just slung stuff through, with any old decision." "You're more likely to meet your targets if you're not upholding them." 11,000 cases fell into a black hole for two years. Some of those letters said "I am going to lose my house." @UKParliament demanded answers. Baroness Ros Altmann called it shocking. MPs threatened a full inquiry. FOS said the footage was "not representative." Nothing changed. Fast forward to today. My own complaint against @rsagroup / @IntactInsurance is now being formally handled by Gary Smith @G8GWS of @MeridianLegals. Gary is the lawyer leading the FOS Litigation Group, a group built on over 1,000 documented FOS failures. He is preparing a judicial review of the FOS. My case has been submitted by Meridian as my regulated representative because what happened to me fits the same pattern Channel 4 filmed. If you have had a complaint dismissed by the FOS and you believe it was handled without proper scrutiny, contact Gary directly at Meridian Legal Services. 0121 516 0675 @MeridianLegals The full transcript of what @C4Dispatches filmed inside the FOS is in the comments. Read it and tell me this is not exactly what is still happening today.

New analysis on UK media: British media is not delivering the news to its readers. They are delivering an agenda. The seven days after Channel 4 filmed James Orr are a damning indictment of the British press. Orr is a Cambridge associate professor. On 3 September he was shown on camera arranging for a US company to pay for Reform UK's polling, which electoral law forbids. He stood down as Reform's head of policy the next morning. Cambridge said it was examining his conduct that afternoon. On 9 September the Metropolitan Police opened a criminal investigation. Two of the secretly funded polls had run on the Telegraph's own front page. What the press did with that week tells you what it is for. It is not for giving you news you care about. It conducts witch-hunts, it spreads hate and racism, and it serves the people who own it. The two papers that wrote most about Jason Arday are not even owned in this country: Axel Springer of Berlin completed its purchase of the Telegraph in June, and The Times belongs to the Murdochs' News Corp in New York. - Jason Arday was a Cambridge professor accused of plagiarism. In the week after he resigned, fifteen national outlets wrote 163 articles about him. - In the week after the Channel 4 film, the same fifteen outlets wrote 14 about Orr. The people who wrote the Arday story call themselves education journalists. Here's how much interest they took in associate professor Orr: - Albert Tait, Education Editor, The Telegraph: 14 articles on Arday, 0 naming Orr. - Eleanor Harding, Education Editor, Daily Mail: 6 on Arday, 0 on Orr. - Richard Adams, Education Editor, The Guardian: 6 on Arday, 0 on Orr. - Nicola Woolcock, Education Editor, The Times: 4 on Arday, 0 on Orr. - Branwen Jeffreys, Education Editor, BBC News: 3 on Arday, 0 on Orr. - Tom Williams, News Editor, Times Higher Education: 6 on Arday, 0 on Orr. Fifteen journalists led the Arday coverage. Between them they wrote 93 articles about a Black Cambridge professor accused of copying other people's work. Not one of them wrote a sentence about a Cambridge academic under police investigation for how a political party was funded. Times Higher Education, the trade paper of the sector, ran twelve pieces on Arday and none on Orr. Every outlet followed the same pattern: - The Times: 30 on Arday in a week, 4 on Orr. - The Mail: 28 against 1. - The Telegraph, whose front page carried the polls and which says it was misled: 26 against 1. - The Guardian: 11 against 2. - The BBC: 7 against 1. Andrew Gilligan is the clearest case. Since 11 August he has published nine pieces in The Spectator, eight of them about Cambridge: - Farah Ahmed and her work on Islamic education, twice - an Islamic-education project the faculty is linked to, twice - the education faculty's leadership; Lord Woolley, the first Black man to head an Oxbridge college, whom he calls unfit for the job, twice - Cambridge's inquiry into Arday, which he calls a whitewash. Every Cambridge person he has gone after is Black or works on Islamic education. Two of those pieces came after Orr stood down. Neither mentions him. A Cambridge academic on the education beat, under examination by the university Gilligan writes about weekly, facing a police investigation, and the man who says a Black college head is unfit for his job has not found him worth a line. This is not journalism. A journalist covers stories that are of public interest. Orr is undeniably of utmost public interest. These journalists chose their subject by who he was, and when the next Cambridge scandal arrived with a police investigation attached, they looked away. The hounding of Arday was a witch-hunt, and the silence on Orr is its proof. These outlets are not delivering the news to their readers. They are delivering an agenda. Every article is listed and linked at newscord.org/editorials/orr-….

I profoundly disagree that the public interest was served by the collective & individual reporting on Arday. That aside, to ‘celebrate’ any article before the inquest has seen and assessed the evidence around his death seems wildly premature. To say nothing of being cruel & insensitive toward the family.

An overtly racist network targeted Arday. Not a single outlet investigated that until after his death. This award is a whitewashing of the industry’s failures in its most literal sense. It’s also just appallingly bad taste.

Not a single news outlet has reviewed its coverage of Jason Arday, for accuracy or proportionality. Zero attempt has been made to conduct any inquiry into the media’s role in his death. Instead, the industry has moved into self-congratulatory mode. This isn’t just tone deaf, it betrays a systemic failure

#YourVoiceMatters #JasonArday has been cleared of plagiarism for a fourth time. Why is the media silent about it? As another investigation ends without substantiating plagiarism claims, @richardsudan asks who will hold the British media accountable for its treatment of the pioneering Black academic?👇🏿 voice-online.co.uk/opinion/c… @aljhlester @SholaMos1 @misanharriman @BellRibeiroAddy @GoodLawProject

World-leading cardiac surgeon Asif Hasan was surrounded by the children who received the gift of life thanks to his unerring skills at the emotional climax of another memorable Pride of Britain ceremony. 🥹 Now 70 years old, Mr Hasan has just retired after 35 years of service at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, but just after receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award, he had an extra special surprise: a cast of patients who would not be alive without him. ❤️

Warning: Distressing and graphic language An undercover investigation by ITV Exposure into Nigel Farage’s Reform UK has found multiple elected councillors and party candidates expressing racist views and using offensive language. ITV has obtained secretly recorded footage showing Reform officials from across England and Wales using violent, racist and sexist language. Councillors Alan Feeney, Chris Whelan and Jamie Campbell did not reply to our request for comment. Councillors Feeney and Whelan have since resigned from Reform UK. In a statement shared with ITV News, Reform UK said: "Where members, activists and councillors have clearly behaved inappropriately, investigations have commenced. In some cases, there have been suspensions and due process must be followed." "Reform UK has improved and prioritised its vetting procedures, but from time to time, a handful of individuals who do not share our values will initially make it through vetting. This is the same for all organisations."

i've banked with monzo since 2019. it's exactly what britain should be producing. built from nothing, forced every legacy bank to modernise, and now one of the biggest consumer banks in the country and we're about to sell it to brazil investors deserve a payout, fair enough. but the reason it's a sale and not an ipo is that our ipo market is dead. so our best companies get bought instead of listed deepmind to google. arm to softbank. our car makers, our steel, our water, our airlines. now monzo we build them and sell them. every. single. time.
EXCLUSIVE: Monzo, the digital lender which has become one of Britain's biggest consumer banks, is in talks about a sale to Brazil's Nu Holdings which could value it at between £8bn and £10bn, ending the prospect of a near-term IPO of a UK fintech champion. news.sky.com/story/digital-b…

Only one British newspaper put the suspension of the RNLI’s life-saving service on their front page. How long can the media downplay this obvious and terrifying escalation by the far right? This should have been a wake up call for the country. Sadly, it isn’t.
