Huge news! For 3 years @SohanDsouza & I have investigated a covert paid ad campaign pushing anti-Muslim, anti-migrant & anti-Qatar hate speech across Europe, Lebanon & the US.
Today we publish Manufacturing the “Great Replacement”: 533M recorded exposures in 30 countries.

I'm very clear that this is a comment on the industry and not the journalist. I have no idea about the merits or not of his investigation because what most people don't seem to realise is that @timeshighered never published it. It may be a first to be nominated for a prize for a story that never ran. But the issue I'm raising is the optics of a ballroom full of pissed-up journalists celebrating the gotcha of a man who took his own life.
Not a single news outlet has reviewed its coverage of Jason Arday, for accuracy or proportionality. Zero attempt has been made to conduct any inquiry into the media’s role in his death. Instead, the industry has moved into self-congratulatory mode. This isn’t just tone deaf, it betrays a systemic failure
Does this really have to be a tribal/partisan issue? Regardless of what side of the race/gender realism argument you are on, isn't there just basic human empathy for a grieving family and community? It goes without saying that because the media industry is overwhelmingly white, the journalists celebrating this nomination will also be. I don't understand why anyone can think this is a good idea whatever their strongly-held beliefs about the wider story.

Today we’re announcing a new £10bn package of support for Ukraine.
This funding will help Ukraine meet its immediate needs, support economic resilience, and help defend its sovereignty from Russia’s illegal invasion.
We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.

More on the so-called "independent" investigation - it is an extension of very same race science adjacent sympathisers which attacked Arday in the first place. The CAF itself is funded by Reform UK megadonor Ben Delo, whose "sanctuary" in Westminster has hosted the anti-black race science rag Aporia bylinetimes.com/2026/10/21/j…
The CAF-commissioned independent investigation into Cambridge University’s appointment of Jason Arday is now up and running, and needs the assistance of those who know Cambridge best.
We strongly encourage current and former academics, students and other members of the University community, as well as others with relevant knowledge, to come forward with information.
This might include policy documents, internal correspondence or first-hand accounts concerning Arday’s academic record, his appointment and subsequent time at Cambridge, the University’s response to concerns about his scholarship and its treatment of those who raised them, and the development and application of institutional policies relating to recruitment, promotion, academic misconduct, research integrity and equality, diversity and inclusion.
Anyone wishing to contribute can contact the Investigator directly at:

The website provides further guidance on submitting information, including arrangements for particularly sensitive material:

This is a rare opportunity to bring matters long discussed behind closed doors, amongst trusted colleagues, into the light. Those who have witnessed decisions or practices that they believe warrant scrutiny, but have hitherto felt unable to raise their concerns through official channels, can now contribute to an investigation independent of the University.
Please help us spread the word and ensure this appeal reaches as many Cambridge academics and others with relevant knowledge as possible.

Yesterday, I was barred from entering the West Bank by Israeli officials, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation.
What's happening here in Palestine is unjust. We've just witnessed what Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and many others have called a genocide unfold in Gaza.
We came here to show the world, and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Israeli government didn't allow that.

I'm grateful to see this thread as it's not often a prominent journalist will make the effort or indeed make a declaration against own interest to interrogate their own industry.

I profoundly disagree that the public interest was served by the collective & individual reporting on Arday. That aside, to ‘celebrate’ any article before the inquest has seen and assessed the evidence around his death seems wildly premature. To say nothing of being cruel & insensitive toward the family.
An overtly racist network targeted Arday. Not a single outlet investigated that until after his death. This award is a whitewashing of the industry’s failures in its most literal sense. It’s also just appallingly bad taste.

#JasonArday has been cleared of plagiarism for a fourth time. Why is the media silent about it?
As another investigation ends without substantiating plagiarism claims, @richardsudan asks who will hold the British media accountable for its treatment of the pioneering Black academic?👇🏿

Professor Jason Arday is dead. The campaign hasn’t stopped.
Crypto billionaire Ben Delo gave Reform UK £44 million. His hub hosted Aporia, an anti-Black race science platform.
He backs the Committee for Academic Freedom, now probing Arday’s appointment. Same money. Same target.
