Building a championship culture requires the relentless execution of three things. 1. Defining the standards. Establish unmistakable clarity around the behaviors and expectations that matter most. Make sure everyone understands what those standards look like in practice. 2. Modeling the standards. Consistently demonstrate the behaviors you expect from others. Your actions as a coach must reinforce the expectations you’ve established. 3. Protecting the standards. Recognize and reinforce those who uphold them while having the courage to directly challenge anyone who falls short, regardless of their talent, status or role. None of this is particularly complicated. But consistently doing all three, especially when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient, is what makes building and sustaining a championship culture so difficult.

Great news about Good News... "This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace."-Col. 1:6 (NLT)

Effort is the highest form of respect. Not just for yourself or your coaches, but for the game & every player who built that standard before you. Respect the game. Show up. Compete. Empty the tank. One day the noise all fades & your effort is all that remains. That’s your legacy!

Stage 1: Difficult. It’s new and uncomfortable. Stage 2: Tolerable. You’re a little better, confidence grows, small wins. Stage 3: Enjoyable. You’re seeing results, stacking successes. Then you level up. Difficult. Tolerable. Enjoyable. Repeat. Progress is a process. Do the work.

Competitive Joy looks like: High standards. Low stakes. Ambitious, not desperate. Caring about the outcome without needing it. Everything to play for. Nothing to prove. Fully committed. Fully content.

OLD SELF: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry, anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language, lying. NEW SELF: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with/forgive/love others. Peace. A NEW IDENTITY looks different.

When you need your performance to prove your worth, no performance will ever make you feel good enough. Compete from worth, not for it. Fully committed. Fully content.

IF YOUR ATTITUDE CHANGES WITH YOUR PLAYING TIME… You aren’t fully committed to the team. You’re committed to your status on the team. Great teammates don’t make their effort, energy, and support conditional on getting what they want.

If you’ve decided to get better, you’ve signed up for adversity. Don’t be surprised by it, expect it. Adversity is part of the path. Show up anyway. ⛈️🦬

Molly Miller explains why she intentionally schedules time to connect with her players through what she calls “Miller Mondays.” "I think that's really important when your implementing culture is just start with the human beings." Your calendar is a practice plan for your leadership. And you wouldn’t leave an essential part of player development out of your practice plan and simply hope it happens. Give relationship building the same consideration in your leadership. 🎥: Win More, Live Better Podcast (Ep. 120)

Your culture isn’t what you hope it is or say it is, it’s the actions you put into practice each day. Create it on purpose.

One question I have discussed with various coaches from various sports is, “If I integrate my faith with my coaching, will I have to lose my edge and be perceived as soft?” Answer: *emphatically* NO! But, your edge may look different if you have a new identity (2 Cor. 5:17).

The fruit (singular, it seems) of the Spirit IS, collectively, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The fruit in Galatians 5:22-23 is not a fruit bar where I choose the fruit I want or reject. The fruit IS all of it.
