I sat down to chat about what Bury St Edmunds means to me (spoiler alert, a lot).

There is a battle for the soul of the right in our country. And many lessons to learn from the US especially how NOT to govern. Voters want results. As I wrote in The Right Way, democratic legitimacy now demands performance legitimacy. Brilliant analysis from Allister Heath👇
Donald Trump’s Republican Party has suffered a major setback in the US midterms. But was the result really about the war in Iran? @AllisterHeath writes that the answer lies closer to home: in Trump’s broken promises on prices, immigration and peace, and a presidency he says has betrayed the very voters who put him in power ⬇️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/11…

A hotelier could face up to 14 years for evading Labour’s tourist tax. A pensioner’s killer, sentenced yesterday, could be out in under four years. The wrong priorities, at every level.

What do you do when tackling the welfare bill and keeping your cabinet in line over immigration is too difficult? Evidently, you ban miniature sauce sachets.

Shabana has made a serious mistake surrendering to Labour MPs. So I’m putting people on notice - when we get into government we will scrap this weak policy. Immigration is too high. Labour are making a bad situation much, much worse. The Conservative Party is under new management. I accept this problem started under a previous Conservative govt. Many of those in that Cabinet have gone to Reform where they belong. And I’ve got a proper plan to fix it👇

“We should not even be entertaining the idea of reparations” @KemiBadenoch 💯
This is the correct take on the slavery/reparations grift. #bbclaurak

Try telling that to the small business owners working evenings and weekends just to keep their businesses afloat.

Employers aren’t working people?? Employing people is one of the hardest jobs there is. And Labour are making it harder. Building the team to make a business grow is rewarding but also a massive challenge - be great if someone in Labour understood this.

In a single comment, Emma Reynolds has underlined this Labour Government’s outright hostility towards business and those who, despite Labour’s best efforts to make their life impossible, want to grow our economy. Awful.

“I don’t think employers are working people”. Emma Reynolds, Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Beyond belief.
Car crash interview on GB News. Labour's Emma Reynolds: 'I don't think employers are working people, they are companies.' Tell that to every small business owner opening up at 6am. Labour promised no tax rises on working people, and now it's redefining who counts.

The new changes to drag forward income tax charges mean that many if not most people will be paying income tax on money they haven't earned yet. Very few business have 1/12 of their profit available to distribute in April. Even if it's quarterly, how many businesses have 1/4 of their annual profit in the bank by the end of June? If the Treasury knew anything about seasonality or billing cycles, they'd never have proposed this change.

Healey fails his own test… The Chancellor resigned as Defence Secretary because the cash Starmer offered would have left our country ‘less safe’. Instead, he demanded 3% by 2030. Now he’s Chancellor, the best he can offer is a plan to have a plan for 3%. NO cuts to welfare to pay for Defence. NO tough decisions today. John Healey’s manana budget.

This is…very confusing. The Prime Minister insists that no decision on Rosebank has been taken… But, the Office for Budget Responsibility have based their forecasts on, “estimates of the production from currently producing fields and the NSTAs estimate of production from development of new fields, which include ROSEBANK and from FUTURE DISCOVERIES.” So, is it approved or not? Serious questions to answer from the Energy Secretary!

🤔 The removal of standing charges on gas bills…sounds good doesn’t it? 💁‍♂️ On the face of it, yes, in general bills might be lower - but here’s the catch… 🤨 If you are a ‘higher consumer’ (meaning someone that uses gas for heating, cooking, hot water etc) then your energy bill is about to go UP. That’s cause they are putting the fixed daily cost on to the Unit Rate. 🥶Next week in large parts of the UK, the temperature is going to get close to freezing. Because of these changes, if you live there and heat your home with gas and want to turn on the central heating…Labour just made your life much more difficult and far more expensive.
