A tariff is a tax. China or Canada doesn’t pay it. Farmers, American manufacturers, and families at the checkout counter pay it. I oppose blanket tariffs and support free, fair trade that benefits every American.

Nearly $2,000. By my calculation, that is what the Iran war has cost the average American household since the war began nearly eight months ago. Nationwide, that adds up to $265 billion.

New today via IG report: After leak of confidential tax documents of wealthy people (and after it was clear that leak came from inside IRS), dozens of IRS employees peeked at records of celebs, gov officials, biz leaders. No indication of disclosure. wsj.com/politics/policy/irs-…

A sudden cut to Social Security checks (long seen as a far-off doomsday) is now an imminent problem for the next president and whomever voters send to Congress in the coming years. The trust fund that bankrolls monthly checks to retirees is set to be drained of reserves in 2032. That means tens of millions of Americans age 62+ will see their monthly payments shrink by more than 20%. politico.com/news/2026/08/27…

Risk management 101—every exposure should have a limit, even when you’re sure nothing could go wrong. After all, the Titanic sank and AAA mortgage bonds went to zero. I worry about the market’s (and the economy’s) unlimited appetite for exposure to the positive AI revenue story.

The data centers should just fund power plans that become public property and create free electricity for the citizens of the state.

This is the tax risk every American with any degree of wealth is facing.
It took the US 200 years to reach its first $1 trillion in debt. It took 95 days to add its last

Neither party will touch SocSec & Medicare. Both parties want to cut taxes for bottom 95% of earners. Republicans want a 40% defense hike. Democrats want aggressive social spending hikes. Debt interest costs will exceed $1 trillion. Huge deficits are a deliberate policy choice.
BREAKING: The US federal government has posted a record July budget deficit of $432 billion

We are not making America Great. We are making America weak. The politicians in Congress have made our country a dependent nation even dependent on our enemies to finance us.
I spoke with @wealthion on why the AI bubble may burst: “The US 10-year Treasury yield is soaring. As a result, the discount rate is rising, lowering the present value of free cash flows. This is a threat that could begin popping bubbles in the market.” nitter.cf/steve_hanke/status/208…

The U.S. is no longer a massive outlier in defense spending compared to Europe. This year's U.S. defense spending is 2.8% of GDP, which is our lowest share of GDP since before World War II - and it will be further squeezed by deficits. All in an increasingly dangerous world.
Defence spending across Europe differs widely. Seeing what Ukraine has to pull off is quite remarkable. Source: mapsinterlude.wordpress.com/

The outcome of the United States, being financially dependent on others to fund the debt. The problem is everything downstream from interest rates, basically the entire domestic economy and stock market.

It's not just children. Americans should expect higher taxes on retirement savings. Means based testing used on Roth IRAs, and the return of social security benefits for those with means.
Replying to @JessicaBRiedl
This chart should scare every taxpayer - and be pasted in the briefing books of every lawmaker voting to endlessly cut taxes and dish out more spending. Our children are going to hate us.
