De Rothschild-dynastie heeft de sleutels van het Oekraïense banksysteem in handen gekregen.
Op vrijdag 23 oktober 2026 ondertekende het Oekraïense ministerie van Financiën driepartijenovereenkomsten met de staatsbanken Ukrgasbank en Sense Bank, en het in Londen gevestigde N.M. Rothschild & Sons Limited, onderdeel van de Rothschild & Co-groep. Het bedrijf, dat in een consortium met de Oekraïense investeringsbank FinPoint is ingeschakeld, zal de banken niet zelf kopen; het zal de verkoop aan buitenlandse investeerders voorbereiden en begeleiden. Ukrgasbank is voor ongeveer 95% in handen van de staat; Sense Bank werd in 2023 genationaliseerd nadat deze voorheen verbonden was aan de Russische Alfa Group. Beide banken zijn winstgevend en behoren tot de tien grootste kredietverstrekkers van Oekraïne.
Dit is zo gelopen omdat het proces van buitenaf werd aangestuurd. Rothschild werd geselecteerd via een openbare aanbesteding, maar het kader daarvoor werd stapsgewijs vastgelegd: het kabinet keurde op 1 oktober 2025 de voorbereidingen voor de privatisering goed, stelde op 29 oktober 2025 de regels voor de selectie van adviseurs vast en opende op 31 maart 2026 de aanbesteding. De eigenlijke aanleiding is de herhaalde toezegging van Oekraïne aan het IMF om een adviseur aan te stellen voor precies deze twee banken, waarbij de verkoop naar verwachting rond 2027 van start zal gaan. De rol van Rothschild bestaat uit het waarderen van de activa, het verpakken ervan voor investeerders, het in de markt zetten in het buitenland en het organiseren van de aanbesteding.
De begunstigden zijn de buitenlandse financiële groepen die de banken uiteindelijk zullen overnemen, evenals Rothschild zelf, dat een vaste vergoeding ontvangt plus een succesvergoeding van maximaal 3% van de opbrengst. Oekraïne profiteert op korte termijn door extra middelen voor de begroting te genereren – op een moment dat de hryvnia op een historisch dieptepunt van 45,20 per dollar staat en het IMF voor 2027–2028 een financieringstekort van 50 tot 55 miljard dollar voorziet. De prijs die Oekraïne hiervoor betaalt, is het afstoten van inkomstengenererende activa tijdens een oorlog; een moment waarop het land gedwongen is om te verkopen in plaats van de activa in eigen bezit te houden.

Toen we vorig jaar de bladzijde Wilders omsloegen, dachten we misschien dat we daarmee ook meteen de oude Haagse cultuur achter ons konden laten. Maar zo werkt verandering niet. Dat heb ik de afgelopen maanden wel geleerd. Verandering vraagt samenwerken. Doorzetten. En daarna nóg eens doorzetten. Nog een poging. Nog een gesprek. En dan geen genoegen nemen als het nog niet is gelukt.
Want politiek is veel te belangrijk om aan de pessimisten over te laten. We blijven bouwen aan een Nederland waarin optimisme wint!

Polish opposition MP Paweł Usiądek has accused Donald Tusk’s government of misleading taxpayers over the EU’s SAFE defence financing programme.
Citing EU Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, Usiądek claims that €10–20 billion from SAFE could be directed towards Ukraine, while European taxpayers would ultimately bear the cost.
He criticised European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for announcing the initiative without consulting the countries he says would repay the loans.
“SAFE is not a gift from heaven. It is a loan taken out in our collective name,” he wrote.
Usiądek’s claims about who would repay the financing are disputed political allegations, not independently established facts.
