Blessing and a curse:
I pride myself on knowing what the ideal candidate looks like.
But it's easy to overscreen.
Asked a candidate about experience consolidating financial statements.
He talked about consolidating budgets.
Not the same thing.
Woke up last night stressing about a deal.
Couldn't get back to sleep.
Ending the day more optimistic than ever about going out on my own.
Working for yourself is a trip.

Recruiters want certainty before an offer.
Some argue you shouldn't let an offer go out unless you know the candidate will accept.
That's ideal.
It's not always realistic.
Approaching the offer stage on a search.
Candidate will need to take less than he's making now.
Client will need to pay more than they planned.
Both sides knew this from the beginning.
It's easy to say you're willing to compromise at the beginning.
Harder to actually do it at the end.
Opportunity in SF:
i'm hiring a head of ops & cs in SF for a seed-stage healthcare startup. $200k-$225k
the founder's bar:
→ you get to the point (allergic to jargon + fluff)
→ you've built ops from zero, recently, at an early-stage startup
→ you're a generalist who's owned more than CS
→ you'll fix the problem yourself first, then hire the team behind it
→ you're pumped about being in the office in SF
4+ yrs in B2B ops + CS. healthcare ops is a huge plus.
DM me if this is you or someone you know

Common feedback from sub-$50M owners:
“I don't mind paying more.”
It makes sense, if it works.
It's not the compensation that concerns them.
It's the uncertainty.
Realization a few months in:
Flat fees are attractive to some clients.
Others don't care.
They just want the right person.
Two finalists for current search:
Andrew.
And Andrew.
Neither goes by Andy.
