The future of liver research is unfolding this morning at #EASLCongress, as the Future of Hepatology session spotlights innovations in basic science.
Today’s talks are showcasing groundbreaking advances in liver regeneration, gene-correction therapies, and the discovery of novel biomarkers and molecular targets for liver diseases and cancer.
Experts are bridging fundamental science with translational promise, offering new insights that could redefine how we tackle liver failure, genetic disorders, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
A powerful reminder that today’s basic science breakthroughs will shape tomorrow’s clinical care.

🌷We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Jessica Zucman Rossi & Théo Hirsh conclude the #EASLCongress BSS on day 1 with an integrated view of personalised medicine in HCC & hepatoblastoma.
🔝👌🏼
Much more basic/translational sessions on days 2-4; check the EASL website/app!

Indeed! I highly recommend it. 👌🏼 Thanks to Saskia van Mil & Kristof van Avondt for organising this.
Hopefully the start of much more basic science sessions usefull for high impactful research in Hepatology 🙌🏼
Let us know what you would like to see! 📝
@EASLnews
A full room at #EASLCongress for a hands-on session on liver spatial biology at Skill Center 4. Learn about multiplexing protein markers in Liver. There are 2 more sessions at 13.30 and 16.15h. Walk in and discuss with tutors all day to learn and ‘play’ with a liver dataset!
Packed room! 🤩 I dare saying this is something to keep fine tuning and increasing the offer for next year(s)!! Basic Science rocks! 💪🏼😅

🌷The Basic Science Seminar at #EASLCongress delves into the exposome and liver carcinogenesis, as we explore how environmental and metabolic factors fuel liver tumour development.
From the physiopathology of hepatocarcinogenesis with or without cirrhosis, to the disruptive role of micro- and nanoplastics on liver metabolism, today’s speakers are unveiling how modern exposures shape cancer risk.
@JesusMBanales @RuiCastroHD @LeilaAkkari1
Excited for #EASLCongress 2025! 🤩

🌍🧩 Plastic pollution & liver disease : what’s the link?💥
This year at #EASLCongress, we’re shining a spotlight on Environmental Hepatology with a must-attend Meet-the-Expert session:
“Plastic Pollution and Liver Disease: Unravelling the Evidence.”, on 8 May, 8:30 - 9:30 CEST
events-apps.easl.eu/easl2025…
💬 Here are the big questions we’ll be tackling:
1️⃣ How do micro- and nanoplastics enter and move through the human body, and what do we still not know?
2️⃣ Is there solid evidence tying plastics to specific diseases, and what limits current research?
3️⃣ Are experimental models capturing the real-world exposure picture?
4️⃣ What tech and science breakthroughs are needed to move the field forward?
5️⃣ Could plastics be silently contributing to liver disease, and how do we find out?
🎤 Featuring the scientist who coined the term microplastics, the researcher linking plastics to heart disease, and leading experts in hepatology — discover how micro and nanoplastics might be fueling liver disease and what can be done about it.
