Machines are tools, not persons. Today, some propose granting these systems rights, or even legal personhood. Such an approach risks obscuring human responsibility and leaving those who suffer harm to confront a faceless entity.

The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Creativity was never "reserved for a select few". But creativity without craft, and without the willingness to learn and grow in that craft, is just daydreaming.
AI art is not "real art" because it isn't real; it's a displaced dream instead of a vision lovingly brought to life.
⛪ Belarus has blessed its first AI-generated religious icon
The icon depicts Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager who was canonized in 2025 and became known as the “Cyber Apostle.”
The icon was installed in a Catholic church in Novolukoml, where Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz blessed it on October 11.
The move has sparked debate on social media, with some believers arguing that AI-generated images should not be used for prayer.

Since this apparently “got out of hand”…
If you’re looking for dad jokes and puns, cute pictures of dogs and kids, or ramblings on faith, nerd stuff, or the inevitable necessity of a Butlerian Jihad, you’re in the right place.
God bless and be good to one another!
Reminds me of that joke about how a physicist dies and goes to Heaven, upon which he asks God why He made the speed of light as arbitrary as 186,282 miles per second.
“What do you mean?” God replies. “The speed of light is 1.”

Here's a use case I like. Imagine your grandmother sitting alone in an assisted living facility. You create a program that shows up on her TV that connects to your family group text. Each time someone in the family uploads a picture or makes a comment via text (for example, uploads a picture of their baby and says 'doesn't his outfit look cute'), that comment is read aloud by the AI who looks exactly like that person. We are really the ones communicating via text, but the text turns into a live version of us via this program, and provides an immersive way for us to "hang out" when we're not there, and not on a phone call.

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…
