So excited for getting my first grant as PI! After 2 assessment rounds and the today's final, the Women's Giving Circle voted to fund my project. Many thanks for your support @UACachexia @KevinMurachPhD and Tyrone Washington! Glad to be part of the @UARKHHPR and @uacoehp family! – at Arkansas, USA
Thank you to @JPhysiol for inviting me to present our Editor’s Choice paper! I had the pleasure of presenting, but this was a team effort - thank you @UACachexia @PJKoopmansPhD @KevinMurachPhD and all our collaborators. Exercise may be a powerful tool against cancer cachexia.
Stavroula Tsitkanou (@BIDMChealth) explains her recent findings that #exercise may help protect against cancer-related muscle wasting and could even slow tumour growth 💡🔬

Excited to see our work selected as an Editor's Choice in @JPhysiol
Grateful to all co-authors, PIs @UACachexia @KevinMurachPhD and @PJKoopmansPhD for this great collaboration!

In a mouse model of cancer cachexia, Tsitkanou (@UACachexia) et al. show the potential for exercise training not only to mitigate muscle loss, but also to reduce tumour burden.

Part 2 of the collaboration with @STsitkanou showing the “PoWeR” of concurrent exercise training with cancer, this time pre-conditioning! @UACachexia @KevinMurachPhD
Exercise training prior to and during cancer in mice preserves muscle mass, reduces tumour weight and suppresses molecular mediators of cachexia

Our 3rd new manuscript this week: @DelfinisLuca found a mitochondrial-targeted compound partially prevents muscle weakness without preventing atrophy in ovarian cancer. This opens a new direction for therapies targeting muscle ‘quality’. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Excited for this project being off the press this morning! Our study showed that the mitochondrial antioxidant SkQ1 may attenuate tumor-induced muscle loss in males while improving muscle contractility in tumor-bearing female mice.
Fresh out in @AJPCellPhys and off the presses from lead author @STsitkanou with @Franmorena98 @AReginaCabrera @eleanor_schrems @SeongLim7 @ChrisPerryMito @KevinMurachPhD and more!

Congrats @STsitkanou @Franmorena98 @AReginaCabrera @KevinMurachPhD @eleanor_schrems @ChrisPerryMito and all other coauthors!
Watch for Roula's outstanding work in @AJPCellPhys soon!
So glad for this study being published online this morning.

This was a big project. @WillDeaver led the study. @AReginaCabrera brought it home and many individuals put in countless hours. Really excited to get this data out there. Looking forward to continuing our work on biological sex dimorphisms in cachexia!

In press!
@DelfinisLuca in our lab found cancer causes weakness in quads + diaphragm BEFORE atrophy
BUT quads recover 'specific' force once atrophy occurs
Can we embrace muscle heterogeneity and the power of compensation in mice to guide new therapies?
