Excellent cetaceans of the Azores in the Guardian today. But I do feel the need to point out that this male is not "escorting" the group from "300m behind". Females lead the group. And males are reliant on their female group mates to survive. The escorting is the other way round

I’m seeing a lot of anger and disappointment in badger circles today that the badger cull is ending, but not ending fast enough. Apologies for the long thread 🧵, but tet me explain why I think the news is the best it could be 1/25

Some friends found this on a fence in rural Devon, UK and I am at somewhat of a loss. So I am applying to the collective wisdom of those left on Twitter...

My first PhD chapter is out as a preprint! Together with @danielj_redhead, @rlmcelreath, and @PrimBehavEcol, we propose a general analytical framework to study the causes of animal social network structure, using Bayesian & Causal modelling. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

*Very* excited to see the last study of my PhD making the cover of @ScienceMagazine on the macaques of @CayoSantiagoPR. We show that ecological disturbances can alter selective pressures on social ties leading to persistent societal changes. shorturl.at/i2WIB 🧵👇

Menopause not only occurs in humans, but also several species of whales. And it’s a mystery why it exists! Charli Grimes’ research in killer whales indicates that postreproductive females reduce injury in their male offspring (but not their grand-offspring) #ASABSpring2024
