What happens when you combine two #precision #antimicrobials?
➡️Enhanced #UPEC killing using #engineered #phages that release a #colicin from infected target-bacteria!
➡️See effect of this two-pronged attack in green (supplementary data from rdcu.be/dhi2D)

Pathogens that cause urinary tract infections #UTIs are becoming increasingly resistant to #antibiotics. ETH researchers developed a rapid test and a new therapeutic approach using bacteria-infecting viruses known as #phages.@SamuelKilcher @MattDunne_1 fal.cn/3A4Gy

Great study covering many applications of phage engineering. Congrats!
Really enjoyed seeing in vivo data comparing wildtype vs. replication-deficient phages 👍
Congrats to our team!

Nice phage engineering work-around for phiKZ-like jumbo phages!
Here, @jingwen_guan presents a new way to engineer phage genomes, using Cas13a + an Acr protein! We developed this because our favorite jumbo phage, phiKZ had no genetic tools. We are now using this to understand the jumbo phage secrets. short🧵biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
How to tackle #UTIs with engineered #phage? Proud to present: biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…. Big shout-out to first authors Jiemin Du + Susanne Meile and co-corresponding @MattDunne_1. Thanks @LeitnerLorenz, Thomas Kessler, and @MartinLoessner for all the support! @ETH_en @derbalgrist

BREAKING NEWS:
The 2020 #NobelPrize in Chemistry has been awarded to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna “for the development of a method for genome editing.”
Another great example of phage-antibiotic synergy, congrats! Phage-resistance often comes at a cost: incrased antibiotic susceptibility, decreased virulence, etc... #CombinationTherapy

When you get a draft back from your supervisor or collaborator and it is covered in comments....
Each comment does not mean, "I think your draft is bad."
Each comment means, "I care about your work, and about you."
