This is one of the most important pieces of social science on human and AI interaction that I’ve seen in some time. Experts follow agentic advice the vast majority of the time (causally), but only a tiny fraction credit the agent—majority think they came to decision on their own volition.
Reminds me of the classic Nisbett and Wilson study on people following outside influence without realizing it
“ But as more work is handed to AI—including AI safety research—these judgment calls are the main levers for people's own values to influence outcomes.
If people defer to AI without noticing, then "human in the loop" might provide less assurance than people expect.”

some stats just hurt more than others

ALT About six in 10 Americans said they have at least “some” confidence that news organizations will report the upcoming midterm election results accurately, according to a new national survey. But only 32% said they had “quite a bit” or “a great deal” of confidence that journalists would do the job. In the survey from Medill Local News Initiative and the Alliance for Trust in Media, 37% said they had either “not too much confidence” or “no confidence at all” that news outlets would accurately report the election results.

The legal team @wsj is the secret sauce in their most impactful work. That’s true at @wapo as well. Good chance to thank the lawyers who support journalism— including all those working at @rcfp.

He may be the leader of the Catholic church, but Chicago-born Pope Leo XIV is still a registered voter in Illinois and requested a mail ballot for the midterm elections.

In my first story for @TheAtlantic, I wrote about the increasingly bizarre tone and tenor of the texts we're getting from politicians. For instance: Why is Jon Ossoff texting me "About last night..."?

I'm looking to hire people excited about the prospect of funding great journalism about AI.
You'll help us identify the best journalistic projects to fund and be part of a small but growing team with big ambitions.
We at the @tarbellcenter are planning to award more than $10M in grants next year, and that could be much more in the years to come.

The only thing discussed more than data centers?
Pickleball courts.

People are not giving @SHAQ enough credit for this idea. He tries to get Ernie’s attention first. Ignored, he pitches it to Kenny.
