Yes, absolutely.
"The only mistake now is going too small."
Economic populism won last night.

What an incredible campaign! And hard to overstate what a massive upgrade Willems is going to be as Iowa's Attorney General.
So incredibly proud of @WillemsForIowa and the race we ran. Nate ran to people the people's lawyer in Iowa and advocate for all 3.2 million Iowans and always be a voice for working people.

People Inc. (fka Dotdash Meredith) announced its second major round of layoffs in a year today, including in Des Moines.
When People/Dotdash first announced plans to buy out Iowa-based Meredith in 2021, we were told they had "stressed a commitment to Des Moines" and that employees' jobs were "not changing".
It’s a two-for-one clip. Marshall also says this insanely out of touch statement: “The best cattle markets of my lifetime.”
Reality check:
President Trump flooding USA with foreign beef imports.
Independent ranchers making less.
Big meatpacking monopolies making more.
Consumer beef prices still high.
U.S. cattle herd at 75-year low.
One of the craziest stories all year. This alone is absolutely disqualifying for Brenna Bird. Vote Nate Willems.
New post: I published the speech Joey Norris gave at the recent No Kings: Vote Early rally in Windsor Heights.
"Nobody gets to be king of our elections. Not in the counting room. Not in Brenna Bird’s office. Not in the White House."

Hard to view the EPA as anything other than a corporate-captured agency and complete arm of Big Business at this point.
Needs a total overhaul and massive corruption and ethics reforms (like pretty much the entire government at this point).

A revealing exchange between State Senator Janet Petersen and the CEO of Mesabi Metallics, from last Friday's meeting of the Iowa Senate Ways and Means Committee. #ialegis @janet4iowa

How will Mesabi Metallics finance their proposed $15 billion Iowa steel plant? State Senator Janet Petersen @janet4iowa asked the CEO last Friday. "We're still developing the capital structure," he told her.
Don't bet the farm on this plant being built.

Pope Leo's tweet this morning is profound. Whole books on spirituality have been written on this concept, like St. Francis de Sales "Introduction to the Devout Life" and Brother Lawrence's "The Practice of the Presence of God" (which the Holy Father admires) but the Pope sums it up perfectly.
"There exists a martyrdom of those who offer their lives in a single moment, and the more hidden martyrdom of those who give their lives day after day. This is exactly what all Christians are called to do: to give our lives with love, every day.
"Our age needs men and women who have the courage to do good even when it comes at a cost. Draw close to those who are alone, support those who are weary, and seek out those who have drifted away. Have the courage to forgive, to begin again, and to engage in dialogue.
"Doing good does not always receive recognition and often requires effort, but this is the daily courage of charity. Friendship with Jesus Christ gives us the strength to live this way."
Love this reminder on modern life from Pope Leo.
Evokes themes of the "saints next door" and "the middle class of holiness" from one of my favorite passages in Pope Francis' 2018 apostolic exhortation, Gaudete et Exsultate (“Rejoice and Be Glad”).

I wish every legislator 1) took their job as serious, 2) was as educated and knowledgeable, 3) looked out for the voter/taxpayer, and 4) took a stand on an issue.
This should be the norm.
Zero demagoguery. Just an educated opinion.
GOP State Senator Dan Dawson (chair of Iowa Senate Ways and Means Committee) delivered the #ialegis speech of the day.
Said @IAGovernor "negotiated against the Iowa taxpayer." He slammed "the largest corporate giveaway" in state history.

No, actually Jim @newbietraderjim is correct in his critique of the legislation.
The structure of incentives as both refundable and transferable tax credits (not the same as deductions or nonrefundable, nontransferable tax credits) does indeed matter. More here on why: nitter.cf/ScottSyroka/status/210…
Regarding bill proponents' claims that there would be "no advance spending" — Republican Senator Jason Schultz (Crawford County) made some strong points during his testimony Friday as to why he was voting against the bill, including concerns that the bill would commit to advance spending of revenue (see video for partial clip of his speech):
"As we authorize additional tax credits, they work against the tax plan, as I see it, and puts us in a difficult situation where we are spending, in advance, revenue."

Jim @newbietraderjim you are WRONG. The money isn't given to the mining company up from or even paid directly. Read the bill Sarah voted against! The bill is a promise of lower taxes during the build. No taxpayer money is being used especially if they don't build.

Incredible testimony from Senator Janet Petersen happening on Iowa Senate floor right now.
"Why are we giving a handout to a foreign corporation instead of focusing on Iowans and their needs?"
Arguing Iowans and Iowa businesses have gone their entire lives without seeing tax giveaways like these to benefit them.
