Haven't done this in years, Posting a video of my game that I believe will show it in a positive light. I've been crunching so incredibly hard the past month trying to bring to life a revolutionary control scheme I'm dubbing "MASHLESS" that allows the player to execute a full set of combat manuevers and attacks with nothing but directional input! And I'm showing it off here, appologies for the crappy play (you'd think i'd be better at playing my own game after laboring over it for so many forsaken years), but it's difficult playing a game with phone controls using a darned mouse! Anyhow, don't expect this post to get many eyes, maybe it will, but the algorythm is fickle. It's like they always says, "You gotta start somewhere!" And starting today we start posting videos of our game, and every time we make a post, that's a small, small chance that maybe our game can get some eyes and we can start turning our luck around. So anyway, this is our grand "MASHLESS" reveal, I've so much faith and blood sweat and tears in this project, but we've still a ways to go...

Lots of finger pointing, lots of people passing the blame for why games aren't getting made, now that they have AI to do the work of others. Maybe it's not simply an "artist" issue, maybe it's not just a "coder" issue. There are fantastic artists to work with, there are fantastic coders to work with, and it's a blessing to get to work with such people. AI will enhance these workflows in some aspects, and in others it will be capable of doing exciting new things, but only in the hands of profesionals with years of experience will the AI truly excel beyond the works of other AI creations. Nothing has changed. Experience and hard work generates the best results, AI is a new tool in the toolset, and being new and flashy it's getting all the attention. There's this notoin that it has no cieling, that it will just get better and better and all other paradigms will fall to the wayside, but it hasn't happened yet, and who knows what the future holds. Spending your time pointing fingers and decrying an entire field as this or that reflects more on you than others in the meantime. I'll say this about AI. Lots of people who couldn't do art, or could do code before are able to use it now to get some okish results. But mistaking a workable demo with passable assets for a measurable marker towards a fully fledged, quality game is very risky. Lots of fairweather devs who do not understand that the final 10% of gamedev, is actually 90% of the work. AI can get you to that 90% marker a lot faster, but it doesn't make your game good, it doesn't turn heads. Lots of people new to this endeavor are going to learn the hard way that the grueling bits of polish take a lot of effort and staying power, and that's not what attracted them to this in the first place.
I'm 46. Almost dead. Dust in my bones. skibiddy ancient. Over the past 20 years I have worked with so many coders. "As an artist", I've had the exact same relationship with coders - divas, never wrong, always late, awkward, quiet, demure, impossible to work with, etc... Not until I was able to transform human coders into AI was I able to finally get games done. I feel your pain, from the other side of the wall.

There comes a point you have to ask yourself... what even do these engines do that the AI won't be able to do better if the tech becomes as capable as they think it will be? And what does the AI do? What is the work flow? There are so many wishy washy sentiments about what AI dev will be. "It'll just be easier, you'll just tell the AI what you want without any need for an interface." Does anyone even really know what they're aiming for? More than anything it feels like a move against Roblox, maybe an over response. This area is so unexplored it's impossible to say who's making the right move and who's making the wrong moves. I hate to say it, and I really like Unity, I use it myself, but the talent drain is pretty obvious, and you have to figure there's some at Unreal as well. There just isn't much top tier talent at any company any more to make these new tools and the new tech sing, that's a big part of this problem that's the elephant in the room. Lots of people left for AI, or they just got burned out during this awful era in gamedev. All the systems of competency that held this industry together, be it at Unity or Unreal, or wherever, everything's kinda fallen apart. And that's a BIG part of why everyone wants to bet on AI, and why everyone glazes AI, they need AI to do the work ,they need the AI to amplify their coders, because we just don't cultivate great talent any more. Point is, this conversation is so much larger than AI, it's cultural, it's about the fundamental state of gamedev and the people that do gamedev. The big engines have passed hands, we don't have the same firebrands that did the big moves early on, and everyone is just trying to just stay afloat, not creating big new tech because they're excited about it. Anyway, it's just kinda sad. Like the entire industry lost its mojo and they're just hoping having a copywrite theft machine in the AI in their pocket that's going to jumpstart everything. There's a very real possiblity that gamedev in 2 years is just endless waves of clones of clones of clones if we don't find a way to curate the massive waves of slop and if people get so enamored by the AI's ability to generate existing logics, that no one bothers to make cool new stuff.

Attempting to make the camera less jarring in combat, @poandtobros this better? And be honest with any and all feedback. My feelings don't matter, what matters is if the game is good, so if anything feels off let me know! #gamedev #madewithunity

This only happens if all developers become lazy and accept "good enough"
My problem isn't that AI can be used to quickly make games, it's the fear that developers will get lazy and "good enough" will become more and more prominent.

SeaCRIT Devblog: Honing Scattered Notes Into a Chord of Play When I began this project, I had all these crazy ambitions to make all these crazy items and bonuses, that would add nuance through sheer volume. Should I buy that bonus that gives amplified gold gain for as long as you don't get hit?! Or should I get that bonus there that slowly amplifies damage for never missing an attack? I've tried so many setups, and systems and they have failed time and time again trying to "find the fun". What i'm realizing late into the game, is that you don't always need choice, you don't need confusion. Sometimes it's perfectly ok to just have a singular element that feels right! So i'm gutting all the excessive bonuses that enhance damage over time and gold gain for not being hit, and i'm just going to distill it all down into one core bonus we bank on the player gaining called "berserker" and it will be found on a common weapon that I can count on the player acquiring. Berserk will be an attack speed bonus that the player gains for executing combo attacks in succession, but they will lose their charges if they are hit by enemies without blocking said hit! This will create the exact same stakes as before, but to a somewhat lesser degree without too much sense of economy or excessive bonus mechanics to keep in mind for the player. I'm finding my game is MUCH better when it's simple, we can add all the complexities down the road! And the player will be able to gain exp for gaining berserk charges while at full berserk. Once they gain a level in this, they will retain berserker mastery even without the weapon! I think this is gong to be a really neat and novel means of growing in power while enjoying unique itemization at the same time! It's a very strange time in gaming and in gamedev, and I just find it kind of sad we don't discuss or care for deeper design musings, and everything is about memes and divisive bullcraps. Anyhow, not expecting many views on this post. I don't think anyone even knows what marketing or community or whatever the heck gamedev even is any more. If you call out the problems with this industry, you're an asshole chud that must be destroyed. And if you've capitulated all this decay, you're not any better off. I don't know what the future holds. Alls I know is that I can keep working to try to make my game not total crap! So that's what i'm off to do, get back to the bleeding of gamedev. **Random super quick video recording, I gotta get better at setting things up so I don't get random hitches in editor that make my game look like ass XD #gamedev #madewithunity

We need less calls to violence and extremism in gaming. It's absurd we even need to say this. People need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN. No one owns gaming, no one owns a game, no one gets to police who gets to play this or that. Absolutely ridiculous it's gotten to this point. When do we get back to just making good games and enjoying them and finding kinship in one another over a shared hobby? So fucking tiring, but sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. This sort of behavior is embarassing, gaming needs to grow the fuck up.
I Hate to tell you this @DeadbyDaylight But you capitulated to retards and terrorists. This is your timeline now. Notice how it's a downward trend? This is because you've shit on @theburntpeanut 's entire community AND your own community. If you had of told those braindead fucks to get bent when they started threatening to KILL your employees instead of bending your knee to them, you'd have the largest community of gamers in the world supporting you right now. You'd have support from everyone EXCEPT the unhinged terrorists. Which BTW is a GOOD thing. Instead, this number will continue to go down. Because not only was your own community ALREADY going to shit on you and not ever truly accept your apologies. But now you've screwed over and singled out your single intelligent employee. You've let people threaten her life. And you've shit on a community that is larger than your ENTIRE active player base. I bet we see this around 30k by tomorrow night. @DeadbyDaylight

I've watched Peanut for awhile now, ever since his arc raider streams started and I have never seen him be anything but super nice and make slightly edgy jokes that being said I am a kid of the 90's i could just be booming out over here. I don't understand the hate he gets.

"Now everybody accepts iPad art and digital music." Well that depends entirely on how much the artist puts into the art right? Some people would just copy paste large forms of other people's works, or use heavily automated tools to generate their works, this caused the digital art scene to looks stale and "samey'. I think what often happens, is people become so enamored by once difficult tasks becoming automated, that dopamine fires in people's brains, and they start to value the output more than they should due to emotional response to the process being fun and easy. There are cool tools being made with AI, and crazy awesome systems and automations, but at the same time, certain elements do not form a cohesive whole when generated with too much AI. People keep saying "code is solved" or that AI can just clone this or that software in a few days. But that's largely because it's sampling existing code bases of fans emulating existing features. The hype never lives up to the actual product, but people don't care, they just keep speaking to how amazing AI is. AI IS AMAZING, but not as amazing as people claim it to be, and until people start to try to have a more measured take on its limits and not overindulge in it, people aren't going to be producing work with AI that surpasses the work we were doing before this AI era. The thing limiting AI the most right now, is the overhype of AI.

#indiedev #madewithunity

I appreciate your concenrs. Let me say, you have NO IDEA how complex and insane it is here. I think like you and want whats best for our country, this gets complicated by politics, but it's not about politics. It's about the Leftist americans and the rest of us, they exist apart from us, they don't think of us as countrmen if that makes sense. It makes perfect sense how you guys live, we once lived like that. You want to make good games, so you want to work with other people who want to make good games, and you want to work with the best of the best to make the best games. You also love your country and want the best for China, this means you work with others and help them for the greater good for your nation. We once had that here too. Now we have a new element where many of us think the rest of us are "racists", which is a silly concept that's been blown out of proportion to other, and make other look evil. You can only kind of understand this if you haven't lived it. For you, you think "Silly Americans" and it is silly. Some of us have actually had our lives destroyed over this nonsense. These people use these accusations to get ahead of others, they don't hav eto work hard, they dont have to be the best game creators to get their jobs, they don't want to work with the best, they don't want to work hard to make the best game, or to make a better society for Americans. They just want to call other people racists and have easy jobs where they don't have to work hard. It is so complex and people do not even understand the ramifications of what they do, they act like children. Anyway, crazy reply I know, but you have no idea how weird it is living in America right now with all these morons making life a living hell for the same people who just want a strong America with hard workers and principle.

👍💯💯 EXACTLY People should express themselves, they should make their art, and be free to be themselves. These SHIT HEADS preached this, while silencing and destroying lives. It is DISGUSTING and they shoudl be fucking ashamed. But they're not capable of shame. They've made their bed and they will lay in it. This is karma for the past 10 years they subjected their coworkers and customers over this dreadful culture war.
