The open internet has been one of the greatest forces for freedom and human progress in modern history.
It has given ordinary people the power to learn, create, organise, challenge authority, campaign for change, and share ideas without needing permission from governments or corporations.
That freedom is now under threat.
The Government says its new proposals are about “protecting children online.”
But the reality is much broader.
These sweeping measures would affect everyone through age verification systems that increasingly operate as identity checks, device-level monitoring, and the progressive removal of anonymity online.

Amusingly nine of the ten areas that will be hardest hit by Labour's planned new £1.5m threshold for its high-value property tax are Labour-run.
London Labour MPs said the policy was “unambiguously anti-London” One London Labour MP said the mansion tax was a divisive policy that would not help the party’s chances. “Andy is risking quite a few London seats where lots of his ministers are MPs,” they said.
Another Labour MP said: “Many London voters will see the £1.5 million threshold and think, ‘That is going to hit us eventually.’ That’s a lot of seats that would be in big trouble. It would fuel perceptions that Manchesterism is anti-London.”
Of course it's not a 'mansion tax'. In London it's a 'nice three-bed flat tax'. And it's going to affect many tens of thousands of people below the threshold who will cease any significant improvement of their properties.

Germany currently has about 26 gigawatt hours of battery storage. Most of it sits in home batteries with only 4.3 gigawatt hours actually serving the grid.
Building that storage already cost more than €10 billion, and at national demand levels it only covers roughly 30 minutes of summer electricity usage.
The winter months bring what's known as 'dunkelflaute' -- cold dark windless periods (and higher energy usage).
To survive a 10-day winter lull (the minimum realistic requirement), Germany would need about 12,000 gigawatt hours of batteries, 470 times today's storage.
Such a system would weigh roughly 60 million tons and would be made from vast quantities of lithium, nickel, graphite, copper, aluminum and steel -- all requiring intensive mining.
At current battery prices, the system would cost trillions of euros. And batteries last only 10 to 15 years, meaning the entire system would need constant replacement.
The conclusion is unavoidable:
Wind and solar require reliable backup power --renewables need oil, coal, gas and nuclear.

A whole sub industry of medicine was built on the false idea that when you eat the animal fat that you were designed to digest, it solidifies and clogs up your arteries like it does when your pan goes cold.

For 60 years
The fat in a blocked artery is three quarters unsaturated, and a cardiologist has known that since 1994.
The pipe story goes like this: you eat butter, the butter floats about in the blood, the butter sticks to the wall like grease in a drain, one day the drain is shut. It is the tidiest piece of medicine ever drawn on a napkin, and every part of it is wrong.
Dietary fat does not float about. It is packaged in the gut, shipped to your fat stores and muscle, and is gone from the blood within hours. Plaque does not sit in the pipe like sludge; it grows inside the wall, underneath the lining, where nothing you swallowed can reach it without an invitation. And the invitation is damage: a cholesterol particle gets through the lining, oxidises, and the immune system builds a scab over it. A plaque is a scab on the inside of a pipe, not a lump of dripping in the bend.
In 1994 The Lancet did the obvious thing and cut the plaques open to see what the fat inside them actually was. 26% saturated. 74% unsaturated, and more than 40% of it polyunsaturated, the fat that oxidises, the fat that comes out of a seed, the fat the butter was replaced with.
So the drain was never blocked with butter. It was scabbed over a wound, and the wound was full of the stuff the leaflets told two generations to cook with instead.
The pipe was a metaphor. The seed oil was a diet.

We already have NSOIT, the Government Communication Service, the Media Monitoring Unit, RICU, the Defending Democracy Taskforce, the Joint Election Security and Preparedness Unit, the FCDO’s Information Threats and Influence Directorate, 77th Brigade, NCSC/GCHQ, the National Cyber Force and the Social Cohesion Taskforce.
Is that not enough? How do we know this new body won’t be weaponised to silence dissent and chill free speech?
Will it reprimand the Government itself? FSU Director of Policy and Research @DavidRoseUK's new briefing argues that the Government has itself been spreading misinformation about misinformation — exaggerating the scale of the threat it poses.
The Culture Secretary, Lisa Nandy, flounced off X, citing the spread of misinformation as a threat to democracy. If government ministers genuinely care about tackling mis- and disinformation, they should stay, debate and challenge falsehoods with more information — not less.
It is vital that the UK defends our democracy against hostile actors such as Russia. But safeguards are essential to prevent bodies established for that purpose from expanding their remit to domestic dissent and policing the social media posts of British citizens who criticise government policy.
We should remember that more than 62,000 people have reportedly been arrested for “speech offences” in Britain over the past five years — including social media posts.
Meanwhile, under its media green paper, Watch This Space, the Labour Government is already proposing measures intended to promote “trustworthy” news sources. The concern is that this could favour established outlets such as the BBC while disadvantaging more critical outlets such as GB News and independent journalism.
The Government needs to explain exactly what powers this new Centre will have, who decides what constitutes an “untrue narrative”, and what safeguards will prevent it from becoming a tool for policing lawful dissent.
2026 Britain is turning more into 1984 by the day. We literally now have a Ministry of Truth.

Lots to criticise Nigel Farage for but people criticising him for speaking out (rightly) against Burnham’s sinister & beyond Orwellian ‘Ministry of Truth’ aka ‘National Centre for Information Defence’, have lost the plot.
