On July 11, 1999, a random fan named Gylene Hoyle was picked for a Shamrock Farms promo: choose a Diamondbacks player and an exact inning for a grand slam to win $1 million.
She called Jay Bell in the 6th inning.
Bell delivered, pumping his fist around the bases as he made her an instant millionaire. Hoyle used the cash to buy a new house for her family.
The million-dollar swing. 📽️
As expected, Corbin Burnes will not opt out of his 4 years and $140 million deal, per @BNightengale.

Making room for Teruaki Sato at 3B 🙏
It was actually Nolan Arenado that approached the Diamondbacks about playing first base. While he was great for Arizona this year his defensive metrics at 3B were just ok. So likely he will move to 1B but could play some 3B. It leaves a hole at 3B, and Jose Fernandez would be an option to play there but Arizona will also explore the market free agent/trades to see what is out there.

ESPN dropped its 2027 Power Rankings, and the #Dbacks ranked 15th.
“It has been a frustrating three seasons for the Diamondbacks since their surprise World Series appearance in 2023: They won 89 games in 2024 but missed the playoffs via a tiebreaker; they were one game out of a wild card with five games to play in 2025 but lost all five; and they missed a wild card by two wins in 2026.”
