Just watched an immigration court hearing for a detained 15 yr old that started out with the judge asking about his Halloween plans & ended with her ordering him deported.
The lack of justice for immigrant kids right now in our immigration courts is stunningly diabolical.

The level of betrayal here is breathtaking and beyond disgraceful. This is murder. And Markwayne Mullin should be charged as an accessory.

Los Lobos were saddened to hear of the passing of our hermana Dolores Huerta, whose relentless spirit and passion will certainly live on. In 1962, Dolores stood at the forefront of a historic movement that would change the course of American history.

You can’t make this up. Minouche Shafik, the former @Columbia president who caved to hostile politicians in a disastrous hearing, called the NYPD onto her own campus, had students arrested by the hundreds, then resigned in disgrace, is now in charge of @LSEnews new forum for “democratic debate.”
Will she call the police on the debaters too?

My uncle spent 40 years as a high school teacher. Saved $250k in a modest nest egg.
At 78, he developed dementia and needed memory care.
The facility cost $8,500 a month.
When his savings ran out after two and a half years, the social worker handed my cousin a stack of paperwork.
She explained the rule: "Medicaid won't cover a single day until he has less than $2,000 in total liquid assets."
He had to sell his car, cash out his remaining life insurance, and empty his checking account just to qualify for basic care.
Forty years of discipline, erased down to two thousand dollars so he could die in a shared room.
They don't let working class families leave a legacy.
They make sure you die with zero before they hand you a safety net.

The Earth is approximately 4.45 billion years old and we somehow managed to land somewhere in the time between the invention of cheese stuffed crust and the final season of humanity. I’m happy to be here with you all.

Very much enjoying Brazil being the center of the universe. Hope it lasts!
Brazilians have reportedly been spending 6.5% more on staple foods since sports betting was banned in the country.
A month ago, Lula signed an order banning fixed-odds sports betting, a move he said was designed to tackle the problem of families falling into debt.
Now the President of the Brazilian Supermarket Association says that since the ban, sales of essential foods such as rice, oil, coffee, and noodles have grown by 6.5%.

cognitive dissonance is wild bc we all know living to work is soulless/most ppls jobs are meaningless but if you don’t have a career ppl respect you less/you feel like a failure bc almost everyone is too scared to prioritize experiencing life over societal expectations/acceptance

Spoke to @noamscheiber about Beth Wilkinson. My point: establishment Dems will likely praise her for defending ABC against Trump's FCC, and stay silent on the rest of the career. You can’t be the party of working people while in lockstep with the lawyers who enable the oligarchy.

RIP Caryle Murphy, who reported from inside occupied Kuwait in 1990, hiding from Iraqi troops. She would roll a typewritten story into a tube, dress as a jogger, run past an embassy and throw the tube over the wall to get the story out. @amcovarrubias washingtonpost.com/obituarie…
He shot into the passenger side of a car trying to drive away from him because of an alleged (seemingly false) report of stolen baby diapers. And this great, beautiful country of ours just accepts it, even calls it just. My God. What the hell is wrong with us?
