New in @PNASNews: In two large experiments (~18k obs from ~14.8k people), we find that brief conversations with AI can get people to take real political action - incl. signing real petitions and giving money to charity. Surprisingly, the persuasion strategy that worked best for changing people's attitudes - packing convos with info - was the least effective at changing behavior! 🧵

j.u-tokyo.ac.jp/news/2069/

Open sourcing my regression lectures 🍻 AI is changing how we teach. Here’s one way I’m adapting: I’ve open-sourced my regression course, POLI 450A, built on Jens Hainmueller’s original class. The course is suitable for first-year political science PhDs, as well as advanced undergraduate students in economics, political science, and other social sciences. The materials include slides, R code, data, worksheets, and a short video for every lecture. github.com/xuyiqing/regressi…

Forecasting the 2026 US Midterms In a forecasting special issue of @ps_polisci for the U.S. midterm elections, all forecasters predict that Democrats will capture the House, but most anticipate a narrow Republican victory in the Senate. buff.ly/LySzgap

New 2026 US House & Senate election forecasts, using all political science knowledge we could systematize, & our statistical methods from “If a Statistical Model Predicts That Common Events Should Occur Only Once in 10,000 Elections, Maybe It’s the Wrong Model” with @DannyCEbanks and @Jonathan_N_Katz. GaryKing.org/electit We make these forecasts available (including all the input data, methods, and procedures), not only for their possible public interest, but because academics learn by making themselves vulnerable to being proven wrong. We will make no changes to our post-primary forecasts (which do not use polls) but will update two other sets on this site incorporating poll results as new ones appear. Comments on the paper or forecasts are welcome!

I’m really excited to have been quoted in a recent news story about the behavior of Latino voters based on my recent research, particularly on the importance of economic considerations. We’ll see how this manifests in the upcoming midterms! cnhi.com/rss_feed/latinos-vi…

A little late, but I had to share some photos from my third APSA in Boston! :) I was so happy to present “Political Geography and Congressional Campaign Rhetoric” with Jennifer. Rob Oldham gave us really helpful comments and even shared his written notes afterward. So grateful!

It was also so nice to reconnect with my Yonsei folks after a long time. I really enjoyed chairing and discussing the Representation, Candidate Appeals, and Group Messaging panel. I especially enjoyed Paru’s paper! And of course: good food, beautiful weather, and Boston geese 🪿💜
