I have spoken to UPRS (@UPRSOFFICE) Board Chairman Martin Nkoyoyo (YoYo), who has explained why Weasel (@RadioandWeasel) received only Shs285,000 in royalties, as well as the basis upon which the payment was calculated. Perhaps the debate should move beyond "How much did Weasel receive?" to "How do we build a royalty system that generates meaningful earnings for all creators?” @NCFUganda | @URSBHQ | @unmfederationug | @eddykenzoficial
I don't speak for @UPRSOFFICE, but I know a thing or 2 about how royalty distributions work. A few questions are worth asking before we jump to conclusions: 1. This particular distribution covers music usage from 2025. So, how much of Weasel's music was actually played and logged during that period? Was the usage attributed to his solo catalogue, or to works under @RadioandWeasel ? 2. UPRS only distributes royalties for works that are formally registered with the CMO. How much of Weasel's catalogue is currently registered and eligible for distribution? These are important questions because royalty payouts are influenced by music usage, registration, licensing collections & distribution data, not simply by an artist's popularity. I however thank Weasle for sharing his concern!

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the mention of the name Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father. #BeyondTheSpotlight: Is Media coverage telling the full story of Uganda’s Creative Economy? I had the opportunity to share my perspective as an Arts & Culture Journalist at the CREATE Media Café panel, held under the above theme, where I joined fellow stakeholders to reflect on how the media reports on Uganda’s creative industries. I explored how the media can go beyond celebrity, gossip & mere entertainment to tell stories that help audiences, policymakers, investors & other stakeholders understand the sector beyond its most visible names. Many thanks to @ITCnews, @Bayimba & @MastercardFdn for having me.

The best way of loving Chameleon is avoiding anything in relation to his personality.💀
Uganda’s arguably No. 1 music artiste needs to stop the vulgarity in his increasingly rant-filled outbursts! He can express his disagreements with anyone without resorting to vulgar language. It reflects very badly on him. Very badly!

Uganda is tapping its nearly $7 billion in reserves to lessen the blow of a plunging shilling, which is the world’s second-worst-performing currency this month after Iraq’s dinar. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

One month later! 💔 R.I.P A month after his death, perhaps it’s time to ask whether Moses “Papa Moi” Matovu was not simply one of Uganda’s great musicians, but it’s Greatest of all time. ✍️ How do you rank him in that GOAT’s hierarchy?

There’s one almost weekly at the National Theatre @UNCC_UG .
Kampala needs more English comedy shows.

Great insights right. In Uganda, the creative sector contributes 3% to GDP. However, it continues to receive minimal allocations in national budgets. Even then, the funds allocated are not always put to the best use in ways that benefit the sector as a whole. @cfcaafrica
‘The economic contribution of the UK creative industries, as measured by Gross Value Added, is growing four times faster than that of the UK economy as a whole, according to provisional official statistics.’ thecreativeindustries.co.uk/… Yet the Shadow Sec State for Culture says…
