Gordon Newton who was a vicar in the Church of England was jailed for sexually abusing a 3 year old girl multiple times. Gordon who was 40 years old at the time, worked in a church in the Batley of West Yorkshire. His crimes came to light when his wife handed an old mobile phone to police. Officers found 276 indecent images of children, including 70 in the most serious category. His browsing history also revealed a search suggesting an interest in images involving children younger than three. Leeds Crown Court heard that Gordon Newton had confessed to a sexual interest in children over a period of years. His offending devastated his wife, leaving her suffering depression and shattering her religious faith. He was eventually arrested and he pleaded guilty to 12 offences, including six counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13. In September 2021 he was jailed for 9 years and seven months. He was placed on the sex offenders register for life and made subject to a sexual offences prevention order.

He called it a “turning point.” Then he said this: “It is the first time we have had a terrorist act that was planned to kill our compatriots, our children, based on the colour of their skin or their religion.” The FIRST time. Let that sink in. The first time? That single sentence should make every French citizen furious. So Toulouse wasn’t a turning point? When Mohamed Merah walked into a Jewish school and executed a rabbi and three small children point-blank, one of them just three years old? Charlie Hebdo wasn’t a turning point? They remember the teacher. You can try to push those atrocities into the background because they are inconvenient to your politics. But you cannot make a nation forget what it saw with its own eyes. Politicians can rewrite the narrative. They will never rewrite people’s memories. And they will never make France forget its dead
