This probably would qualify for one of those “write a sad short story in one sentence” prompts, but I remember in 2007 I would kill time in my community college computer lab, waiting for night classes to start, visiting Salon specifically to read Garrison Keillor’s weekly column.
Today, after 31 years, we are saddened to announce that Salon is ceasing publication. It has been an extraordinary privilege. salon.com/2026/11/05/goodbye…

Publication day, huzzah! My "Paths in the Snow" is published in the US today - I wrote a bit about it in the piece linked below. Very cheered to be launching the series on the other side of the Atlantic, with the next volumes to come in spring and summer
I’m feeling even more grateful that the stars aligned for Picard season 3 to be what it was. A proper send off for one of the best characters in television. If only Patrick Stewart’s body could actually be launched in a photon torpedo casing! Rest in peace.
Wildwood was good, my kids enjoyed it a lot. The artistry is obviously impressive but I can’t help feeling that Laika has evolved stop motion technology to such a polished fluidity that it loses some of the physicality and human touch that makes it so charming in the first place
You should definitely give up alcohol if you are unable to enjoy it moderately, but don't then be super judgey toward those of us that still drink. Some of us really don't even desire to have more than two drinks in an evening.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this
FJORD is one of the best movies of the year. Provocative without devolving into trolling, yet still genuinely subversive. Stan and Reinsve are amazing. Go see it this weekend if you can! thebulwark.com/p/fjord-revie…
Literally the perfect music for drinking cider on an October evening youtu.be/PML5ro4_zWE?is=KmqO…
Rest in the LORD, & for him
with patience do thou stay
fret not thyself because of him
who prospers in his way,
Nor at the man who brings to pass the crafts he doth devise.
Cease ire, & wrath leave:
to do ill thyself fret in no wise.

With all due respect, so long as PB Rowe et al continue to speak positively about abortion in terms of “reproductive rights” they lack the moral authority/integrity to opine meaningfully about the death penalty.
