Abdul El-Sayed (Michigan Democratic Senate nominee) received substantial support from large individual donors, party-aligned super PACs, labor groups, and progressive networks, alongside strong small-dollar grassroots fundraising.
Key direct and indirect backers include:
• Soros-linked support: Jeffrey Soros (George Soros’s nephew) and his wife hosted a high-dollar West Hollywood fundraiser for the Abdul for Michigan Victory Fund (contributions up to $57,800 per person). Democracy PAC (Soros family super PAC) gave $9 million this cycle to Senate Majority PAC, which has spent/pledged around $30 million supporting El-Sayed (money was not earmarked specifically for Michigan). El-Sayed earlier received funding from the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans.
• Senate Majority PAC / WinSenate: The main Democratic establishment super PAC supporting him with tens of millions in outside spending. Top donors to Senate Majority PAC include the Soros network, Stephen Mandel, Deborah Simon, and Amy Goldman-Fowler.
• Fighting For Michigan super PAC: A pro-El-Sayed outside group. Notable donors include the UAW V-CAP ($300,000), Houston businesswoman Susan Sarofim ($200,000), Unity and Justice Fund ($175,000, affiliated with CAIR Action), and others such as the Institute for Middle East Understanding. El-Sayed’s father-in-law (Tayeb/Jukaku Tayeb) contributed hundreds of thousands to it.
• High-profile individual and campaign transfers: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez transferred $1 million from her campaign. Other max or high-profile donors/hosts include Jennifer Pritzker (Pritzker family), Andrew Dudum (Hims & Hers CEO), Jon Favreau and other Pod Save America hosts, celebrities such as Danny DeVito, Susan Sarandon, Matthew Lillard, and Macklemore (Ben Haggerty), plus hundreds of maxed-out individual donors.
El-Sayed’s campaign has emphasized strong individual and small-dollar fundraising (he significantly out-raised Mike Rogers in direct contributions) and has criticized corporate PAC and AIPAC money. Outside spending from Democratic-aligned groups has been substantial but lower than the Republican-side totals in the general election. All figures come from FEC-related reporting and contemporaneous news coverage of the 2026 race.

Florida votes tomorrow. Amendment 3 raises the non-school homestead exemption to $150K in 2027 and $250K in 2028, and cuts the yearly cap on non-homestead assessment increases from 10% to 5%. It needs 60% to pass. Vote Yes on 3.
