BTech vs BEng vs BSc Eng should not distract us from the bigger question: Who is competent, professionally accountable and capable of solving the engineering problem? South Africa needs the full engineering team: technicians, technologists and engineers. #AgendaForEngineering 🇿🇦 #Technicians #Technologists #Engineers

"Engineering is an activity that is essential and beneficial to society, the economy and the world at large. Without it, there would be less development, less infrastructure, less potential and less productivity. However, it also poses risks to both health and safety, and to the environment, when left unchecked. These risks must be managed, for the good of public interest and place. The @ECSAOfficial was established as a regulatory body to fulfil this mandate within the engineering profession." ~ Engineer TC Madikane, President, ECSA Seventh Term Governing Council #LGE2026 #EngineeringVote

@waynesussman, hypothetically, if a 350,000-strong engineering voting bloc backed one party committed to appointing qualified engineering practitioners #engineers to appropriate technical positions and directing over 80% of infrastructure work to competent consulting engineers and qualified contractors, what electoral impact could that have? Could such a partnership put engineering back at the forefront of infrastructure delivery? #EngineeringVote #LGE2026

Municipal infrastructure cannot be treated as ordinary administration. Water. Sanitation. Roads. Electricity. Waste. Technical leadership should be entrusted to appropriately qualified and competent engineers, technologists and technicians, with appropriate professional registration. #AgendaForEngineering #LGE2026

#AgendaForEngineering 🇿🇦 Infrastructure institutions should be led by people with the appropriate engineering competence, experience and professional accountability for the responsibilities they carry. Engineering leadership must matter. @ECSAOfficial @saice_civil @SAIEE @imesa_za @SAIMechE

Dear @lefa_Max @thiitumz and the engineering community We need to take this struggle to the major political parties: @MYANC @Our_DA @MkhontoweSizwex @EFFSouthAfrica @vote_ifp @OnsBaizaNie @Action4SA @VFPlus. They cannot afford to sideline engineers while communities are deprived of affordable, safe and quality public infrastructure. The era of appointing unqualified people to engineering positions and awarding engineering tenders to inappropriately qualified or inexperienced engineering consultants and contractors must end. It is a lose-lose situation for engineers, government and, most importantly, society. @DepartmentPWI Minister @DeanMacpherson can help put engineering expertise at the forefront of infrastructure and service delivery. What is needed is political will. #LGE2026 is an opportunity to build the #EngineeringVote and strengthen #EngineeringInfluence. nitter.cf/eNCA/status/2114265685…
"There is no water security crisis". That is the word from Deputy Water Minister David Mahlobo. Where problems exist, Mahlobo blames poor infrastructure, lack of maintenance, and wrongful appointments. Tune in to #eNCA, on #DStv403.

Why create a new beaurocratic layer in the Office of the Engineer General when the issue is in provide sound leadership. You can’t out technocrat poor leadership.

Clean water is a right only engineers can make real at the tap. Dosing and testing are engineering duties. An Engineer-General would audit plant capacity before taps turn unsafe. Put professionals in every plant. @ChangingthingsS @SuperEngineerZA #EngineerGeneral #HumanRights

The 2026 MTBPS @Treasury_RSA speaks of “laying a new foundation for growth and development.” We say: Let that foundation be engineered. Give every municipality strong professional engineering leadership. Protect engineering decisions from inappropriate political interference. Create clear professional accountability for infrastructure outcomes. And establish an independent Engineer-General capable of scrutinising whether public infrastructure investment is actually producing the quality outcomes South Africans were promised. Treasury can allocate the money. @ParliamentofRSA can provide oversight. Municipal councils can set priorities. But turning budgets into functioning water systems, roads, electricity networks and other infrastructure ultimately requires competent engineering leadership and accountability. #Engineering #technicians #technologists #engineers #CityEngineers

People study engineering to manage critical infrastructure like the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works, to serve as City Engineers leading municipal service delivery, and to head water and sanitation departments and utilities. @GovernmentZA - Put engineers where engineering decisions are made. #WaterCrisis is avoidable. #AgendaForEngineering nitter.cf/SABCNews/status/211220…
WATCH | Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina says the City of Tshwane failed to warn Bronkhorstspruit residents that unchlorinated water was unsafe for drinking, cooking, washing or bathing, even after boiling, following the gastrointestinal outbreak.

More than 400 cases of gastrointestinal illness strengthen our call for an independent #EngineerGeneral as a #Chapter9Institution. Such an office could empower citizens and stakeholders to hold @CityTshwane, @DWS_RSA, @GovernmentZA and engineering practitioners accountable for unsafe water, poor value for money, weak implementation and inappropriate engineering solutions. #AgendaForEngineering
WATCH | Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya says the City faced challenges with the procurement of chlorine to treat water following a price increase by suppliers.

I am all for engineers having a greater voice in public sector infrastructure delivery, but tell me how often have the industy's own professional councils acted against engineers who have failed due to incompetence, negligence or corruption (and we have a lot of all three)?

Engineers must also raise their hands, engage the media and society, and put forward practical solutions, including ring-fencing service delivery from political and other undue interference. @ECSAOfficial engineering practitioners, CEOs and Boards of Voluntary Associations. #LGE2026
