Colonoscopies are pushed on millions every year. The only large randomized trial (NordICC) still shows no clear drop in colorectal-cancer deaths after 10–13 years of follow-up in the intention-to-screen analysis, while the procedure finds “abnormalities” in a huge share of healthy people. Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren lays it out in the clip: far more people are harmed or over-treated by the scope than are saved by it. Serious complications (perforation, bleeding that needs intervention, cardiac events, infection) are uncommon but not rare when scaled to the millions of procedures done. The false-positive / overdiagnosis problem is the part that rarely gets mentioned.
