*Democrats or Republicans, representing the perceived will of a majority of American voters There, fixed it for you.
The single, overriding question of our politics is whether Democrats will shatter our constitutional order in 2029-30. All other questions are secondary.

Alerting @dcafwriting and all Matthew Stover fans.
We’ve raised $1.3M from YC & Afore Capital so you never have to type or speak again. Typing is slow. Talking into your computer is awkward. Subvocal fixes both Our glasses give you the speed of speech without you making a sound or touching a keyboard. It tracks your internal speech muscles with non-contact sensing and decodes silent, almost invisible mouthing into text at more than 200 words/min. Pre-orders are now live at: subvocal.co/preorder?utm_sou…

So did you.
Trump just posted a video showing a man being mauled to death by a tiger at a wildlife park in England. WTF

Directionally interesting, but mostly incorrect.
There are no longer genuine regional cultures in the US. Cultures are now defined by social class and ideology and exist in geographical archipelagos at the level of neighborhood and profession

Just finished (again) @NoahCRothman's Rise of the New Puritans. Love books like this because they give you a new lens for seeing the world around you. Even years later as new events unfold and the jerseys and team captains change again and again, books like this are a touchpoint.

*no one should participate
Hot take: Kalshi and Polymarket are still gambling, and Latter-day Saints should not participate

The greatest jack-tor of our generation. We're clearly gearing up for awards season!
Watch me explain for @WSJopinion why I'm afraid of cake:

Back in college I watched There Will Be Blood on DVD, and had no idea the DVD player was malfunctioning. Watched the entire movie in black and white, thinking that was how it was released. Tried watching it in color, but there was no going back.
I watched three episodes of season 1 of The Boys before realizing I accidentally started on episode 5 and I just thought the show was masterfully explaining the backstory just from subtle context clues.

It's like learning a favorite song is a cover, then never feeling like the original is quite right.

This isn't that tough to see through. It's not, "this is too dangerous," it's, "we climbed the mountain first, we need government regulators to pull up the ladder behind us so we don't get displaced."
Not sure how to feel about Amodai and Altman both jumping on board with this idea.

Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Hey. You should read this book.
I need more people to read this book. It’s set on a future earth where the MC and others “Actors” get teleported to a fantasy world and get watched by viewers and have to roleplay as entertaining heroes. One of the coolest concepts I’ve read and the plot is just as badass.

Elizabeth Warren is a fundamentally unserious person, and she hopes you are, too.
Shop at any of these grocery stores? Kroger Fred Meyer Ralphs Food for Less Mariano’s Smith’s Harris Teeter Seems like a lot of competition—except that every one is owned by Kroger. Now Kroger is trying to buy another: Giant Eagle. And when competition dies, you pay more.

Ken Griffey Jr. Without the injuries, he'd hold the top spot in almost every category he competed for.
Derrick Rose isn’t available. Name an athlete you wish had a fully healthy career.

Every word. Relatedly, a writer who only ever writes doesn't know enough about life to write convincingly. Might as well turn it over to the robots at that point. But learn woodworking? Or cooking? Or horsemanship? Those aspects of your books will spring to life.
I don't think this is ill-intentioned, so let's dig deeper than a witty comeback that would get more retweets. I used to share the underlying assumption that novelists are story-producers who work at some sadly individualized words/hour. Therefore, more hours worked would equal more words. I've even tried it, cloistering myself and doing literally nothing but writing all day, nap, long into the night, nap, repeat--for two years. The work got faster, at first, with no drop in quality. Then it got worse. Then slower and worse in a doom spiral. It was like holding your breath and sprinting. It goes fine, at first. Art is a response to life. And the truth is, as a reader today, you're lucky. You can now choose deeply human art that's slow and imperfect or deeply inhuman machine art that's fast and imperfect. And lots of people are scrambling to make android art that's fast. It will, I suspect, still be imperfect, with the added (overcomeable?) danger of being shallow. So, me spending a few hours a week pursuing a hobby? That IS me staying in my niche, doing exactly what I need to do to make deeply human art, making it to the highest standard of excellence I can, and making it as fast as I can--which is much slower than I'd like! Thank you for saying I write amazing novels. I feel immensely grateful to be able to make a living doing this hard thing I love.

I spent a year training, then did a massive cross-country walk over Germany a few years ago. Now I'm writing a book with lots of journeying on foot. Those passages would have been a lot weaker without some relevant life experience behind me.

The answer, in case anyone cares, is "a rounding error that is functionally zero."
How much of our annual deficit comes from fraud?

"Rights for me, restrictions for thee" Ever notice that for someone like Sanders, the Constitution only ever flows one way? Amazon has the right to avoid unionization just like workers have a right to pursue it.
Amazon made more than $92 billion in the first half of this year but uses legal loopholes to deny workers their constitutional right to a union. I applaud @NYCMayor for supporting legislation holding Amazon accountable for this corporate greed & protecting its drivers.

I still had some respect for MBD, though rapidly evaporating, over the last few years. This might be the analogy that dries up the pool completely. What a sad, sold-soul joke.
If you don't realize the plane is crashing, you'll confuse the attempt to nose up with flying dangerous into the sun, rather than an attempt to save your sorry life.

More stories of capricious and often malicious gods who play with the lives of the mortals around them for power and amusement? I've already seen The Boys.
What I really hope is that THE ODYSSEY starts a whole trend of adapting Greco-Roman myths, that'd be a refreshing change from the superhero stuff

I hate this shit so much. Dan Wilson takes the Ms to game 7 of the ALCS, then they struggle the following year, and people want to boo him and get rid of him? Shut up and go back under your rocks.
If this actually is a reason why they haven’t fired him yet, would they rather Dan Wilson (and potentially Edgar Martinez) not attend the ceremony The manager be booed during the ceremony What’s more embarrassing is pretty clear, to me
