Teachers worry a 60-minute math class doesn't leave room for small group instruction. What I've observed tells a different story.
Whole group feels efficient: explain a concept once, everyone hears it. But that's rarely what happens: you end up explaining it again anyway, because not everyone got it the first time.

***GREAT TEACHING FRAMEWORK***
Over the last few months we have been working on developing our great teaching framework to ensure every student experiences consistently high quality teaching.
Our framework has four key drivers of excellence:
✅ Subject knowledge
✅ Relationships
✅ Routines
✅ Hard Thinking
The framework has six principles, key components and linked techniques from @WALKTHRUs_5, @teacherhead, @olicav and TLAC @Doug_Lemov. We have mapped the techniques to the Great Teaching Toolkit.
For each technique, we have codified what it means and our teaching and practice labs CPD sessions allow staff to get it, see it and try it.
We then use @Steplab_co for our coaching model to keep it, fit it and continue to try it through deliberate practice.

Early in my teaching career, students told me semester after semester to stop assigning nightly annotations.
I ignored them. Annotations worked for me as a student, so I assumed they worked for everyone.
Eventually I listened, & replaced annotations with an active reading choice board.
And on the next round of feedback, only two students mentioned reading at all with zero mentioning annotations.
Gathering regular feedback from your classroom makes students feel heard, and when students feel heard, the classroom becomes a more inclusive & productive place for all of you: bit.ly/3RKx27g

Not teaching students math facts because they can use calculators, spelling rules because they have spell check, historical dates because they can google it, or writing skills because they have Al is a travesty. Depriving students of these things enslaves them to technology rather than freeing them to flourish as human beings.
