Too many small businesses still struggle to access the finance they need to grow.
CDFIs are stepping in where mainstream lenders fall short. A #FairBankingAct could help scale their role and widen access to fair, affordable credit.

1/ Today, we joined with 24 unions, charities & think tanks to call on the UK Government to scale up the National Wealth Fund (NWF) into a world-leading national development bank. Here's why it matters: 👇🧵
4/ To achieve this, the UK government should enable the NWF to raise its own finance and invest long-term, just like other successful public banks worldwide. This independence would dramatically increase investment and combine fiscal credibility with greater economic ambition.
A scaled up National Wealth Fund would deliver the investment needed to provide clean energy for all, create fair green jobs, strengthen local economies and lower bills. So what’s the UK government waiting for? Read our full statement here: shorturl.at/8Eluy
Small businesses need access to fair, affordable finance to invest, grow and thrive.
But gaps in mainstream lending are leaving some reliant on expensive, unsustainable debt.
That’s why we’re calling for a #FairBankingAct. @FBfACampaign

I’ve coordinated a letter to the Chancellor, signed by @LabourParty & @CoopParty colleagues, calling for a Fair Banking Act to ensure people & viable businesses can access affordable finance wherever they live. Good growth in every postcode needs fair access to finance.
The Chancellor says the next chapter of Britain’s growth story will be written in more places.
To help make that happen, 29 MPs have written to him calling for a #FairBankingAct.

The Energy Transition Council's 'paradox of progress' - the transition is moving v slow despite cheap clean energy.
I'd argue this is about relative financing costs - govts need to make clean financing cheap & fossil fuel financing expensive.

With the UK’s first Labour and Co-operative Prime Minister, and a commitment to double the co-operative & mutuals economy, there’s a real opportunity to strengthen local economies & get more investment into communities.
A #FairBankingAct can help deliver it.
#FairBankingForAll
The commitment to double the size of the co-operative and mutual economy means handing power directly to people in their own communities.
Labour and Co-operative MP @andrewpakes_ asked the Government today how Whitehall will deliver on that ambition.
