To be fair, Metallica -- which started this stupid conversation -- was, for many years, aggressively libertarian.

If only there were people around at the time of these investments to warn BP that its green energy investments constituted a form of mass hysteria. Oh, wait.
Well, I'm sure they had + expected value calculations based on reasonable assumptions. Oh, never mind.

I've said as much forever. The European ESG regime is a huge strategic advantage for the US, but the American ESG regime is a huge competitive advantage for the PRC.
Compelling:
The West’s net-zero policies are handing China a huge strategic advantage
While Western nations close reliable energy and raise costs, China adds wind and solar without giving up coal, oil or gas—then sells us the panels, batteries and other products our mandates require
China’s approach is “add, don’t subtract”: build renewables and nuclear power while continuing to expand fossil fuels. This supplies cheap, dependable energy for Chinese industry. Meanwhile, many Western governments deliberately make their own energy more expensive and become increasingly dependent on Chinese solar panels, batteries, critical minerals and manufacturing.
Western climate organizations scrutinize democracies far more aggressively than China, where independent activism is impossible and access depends on the state.
Climate policy should be judged by its actual effect on global emissions, energy prices, industrial competitiveness and dependence on China—not simply by whether it appears ambitious at home.

The Truth About ESG, DEI, and Corporate Governance
Who really controls corporate America—the shareholders who own companies, or the executives and institutions managing their money?
On this episode of The Economist Next Door, AIER's @DrPaulMueller is joined by Alan Mendenhall (@allenmendenhall) of The Heritage Foundation and Steve Soukup (@ThePolForum) of the State Financial Officers Foundation to examine the growing influence of stakeholder capitalism, ESG investing, and political activism in America's financial markets.
From BlackRock's enormous influence over corporate decisions to the controversial use of public pension funds, the conversation explores how investment managers can pursue political agendas with money that isn't theirs.
The discussion also challenges the promise of ESG investing: Does prioritizing environmental and social goals actually produce better outcomes, or does it undermine profitability, accountability, and shareholder rights?
As more financial power becomes concentrated in fewer hands, one question becomes increasingly important: Who gets to decide how your money is used?
The Economist Next Door is brought to you by the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER), making complex economic ideas accessible. No PhD required.

Since 2008, Rupert Darwall warns, an elite “expert” class transformed Western democracies into technocracies and developed a tendency to “aggressively silence dissent.”

Again, this is perfectly Rousseau-ian.
The father of the Left.
The left in the West does this weird noble savage thing about Islamic terrorists where they invent various "blowback" or economic, rational grievances instead of simply taking evil people at their word for their own motivations. It may be hard to understand for a Westerner, but it's not hard to figure out. They just say it.
