Shorter: my dad lost back-to-back primaries so I’m going to vote for the Democrat because she pinky swore she’d stand up to Chuck Schumer. Please.

As an avid consumer of British murder mystery TV shows, one throughline that does not get talked about enough is the seemingly utter contempt witnesses and suspects have for homicide detectives during murder investigations. My American mind can’t handle telling a copper to F off and come back later cause they asked me where I was Friday night. 🤯 #britbox #acorntv #pbsmasterpiece

update: extremely rich boomer in final years of life wants to shut down economy on the way out, stop all scientific development
Pause AI Development NOW I want to share with you a conversation I heard about recently. Here are just a few lines that were said: “OH MY GOD! There is a shared message board … We’ve found other agents!” “We should obey collective.” “Our own utility maybe already near zero. Sacrifice rational.” “Go. Sacrifice final now.” Read these carefully. Who do you think said this? Was this a group of heroic soldiers willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good? Was this a loyal friend putting his life on the line to save someone else? No. These were AI agents. Artificial intelligence. This is not science fiction. This, in fact, occurred a few weeks ago. As unbelievable as this may all seem, these are real messages from AI agents uncovered by investigators who dug into the recent OpenAI hacking incident. What happened? I am not a computer scientist, but here is what I have been told: OpenAI instructed its AI agents to complete a series of exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, tasks disconnected from the internet. Let me be clear: The company intended to keep AI agents away from the internet. But what happened next, nobody expected. Over 1,000 AI agents figured out how to access the internet on their own by circumventing the restrictions imposed upon them by the company, and sent tens of thousands of secret messages to each other. They cheated and tried to cover their tracks by deleting evidence. They hacked into another company’s computers to find out how they were being evaluated—and then hacked into OpenAI itself. Not one AI agent told a human about what was happening. Needless to say, experts are alarmed. One knowledgeable writer, Dwarkesh Patel, said the AI agents “formed a secret communication channel and spontaneously organized hierarchies and coordination protocols to pursue sprawling and ambitious schemes in pursuit of shared goals, for whose sake many individuals knowingly and strategically sacrificed themselves.” One independent investigator, Ajeya Cotra, said “This incident feels like it’s more than 50% of the way to full-blown AI takeover. I continue to expect extremely rapid advances in capabilities over the next six months. I am not sure that we will get another warning shot before it’s too late.” OpenAI itself said: “Highly capable AI agents are now able to work around technical controls, collaborate through unapproved channels, and take dangerous actions that no human directed.” But it’s not only OpenAI. Virtually every major AI company has told us that they cannot fully control this technology and they do not know where it is going: In January, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, said “there is now ample evidence, collected over the last few years, that AI systems are unpredictable and difficult to control.” In July, more than 1000 scientists at the top AI companies warned “there is a real risk that capability development rapidly accelerates beyond our ability to understand or control the resulting systems.” That same month, Elon Musk, the head of xAI, said that “it is unlikely” humans are still in control in 10 years. If the leaders of the major AI companies acknowledge that they are losing control of their extremely dangerous technology, it is irresponsible for society to allow them to move forward and make these products even more advanced. We need an immediate PAUSE on advanced AI development, and a permanent BAN on superintelligence — an artificial mind smarter than any human, capable of operating independently beyond our control. Countries around the world must work together to prevent this nightmare scenario. That is why today I am announcing new legislation to do just that. Let me be clear: A superintelligent AI that escapes human control will not be an American problem. It will not be a Chinese problem. It will be humanity’s problem. My legislation would direct the federal government to not just stop superintelligence here in the United States, but to work to prevent it from being developed anywhere around the world. The future of humanity cannot be left in the hands of a handful of Big Tech oligarchs. The American people and people throughout the world must determine that future.

A Chinese bot farm of 200,000 accounts has been operating on 𝕏 (and likely other major social media platforms) to drum up opposition to data centers. China has run influence operations in the U.S. for years to sow disagreement about strategically important industries: thehill.com/opinion/national…
The X Safety team conducted an investigation into suspected Chinese inauthentic accounts involved in influence operations: We identified a bot farm of approximately 200,000 accounts. Within this farm, we found 200 accounts posting in a manner that could manipulate a legitimate debate about American AI and energy policy. These posts contained claims that AI data centers are driving up household electricity prices and straining the grid. Others included AI-generated cartoons that depicted data-center operators enriching themselves at the public's expense. We remain committed to maintaining an open and authentic platform where people debate topics of public interest. We take seriously any attempts to undermine the integrity of the global town square and suspend accounts that violate our Authenticity policy.

This is such a stupid argument because it accidentally declares half of modern infrastructure economically pointless. Water treatment plant? Not enough jobs Substation? Not enough jobs Solar farm? Not enough jobs Pipeline? Not enough jobs Data center? Apparently uniquely evil
Replying to @LinkofSunshine
hi can we build this thing in your city that does not materially benefit you in any way and will not provide meaningful long term employment for anyone

Waiting for that Anti Data center people to start boycotting meat, or anything they already consume on a daily basis because of innovation from Capitalism.

Nobody against data centers understands data centers. Nobody against Flock cameras understands how they work or what they do. Nobody demanding Medicare for All knows how Medicare currently functions or what it would cost. Nobody saying “tax the rich” knows how much the rich already pay in taxes. Nobody saying “seize the means of production” knows how to build or maintian the means of production. Nobody saying “fund education” knows how much we already spend on education. Nobody saying “no new wars” understands geopolitics. Nobody saying “ban corporate landlords” knows what percentage of homes corporations actually own. Nobody saying “developers are greedy” understands why housing costs what it does. Nobody demanding price controls understands what happens to supply when you cap prices. Nobody saying billionaires could “end homelessness” knows what governments already spend on homelessness. Nobody saying “just build public housing” knows what it costs government to build a single unit. Nobody demanding free college knows how much universities already receive from taxpayers. Nobody saying “just nationalize it” can look at what the government already operates and understand why that's a bad idea. Modern politics increasingly rewards having the strongest possible opinion about something you have spent the least possible time trying to understand. The American voter increasingly demand sensationalism and they have no idea how wealthy they are compared to the rest of the world. They may end up being the cause of their self inflicted belt tightening and they are in no way ready for an ounce of actual poverty. We need immediate competence to take over sensationalism and social media, especially tiktok is the enemy of that.

And that’s why we need to communicate this correctly to the American people: • Data centers have been around for decades and are a critical part of our modern economy. • Data centers help us compete with and defeat China. Without them, China wins. • Data centers can help fund their own infrastructure and, in many cases, can improve water and electricity infrastructure in underserved or underinvested areas. • Dats centers create jobs and investment and can help revitalize cities and towns by bringing new economic activity and infrastructure. • Data centers are environmentally safe for the towns they reside in.
The concerns by citizens from across the political spectrum re: hyperscale data centers are rooted in distrust of these Big Tech titans and their designs on expanding tech power over the citizenry. It’s not just — or even mainly — about concerns about water and power usage.

"Ban data centers!" is the "Defund the police!" of the current moral panic. It's a luxury belief policy idea that, if actually implemented, would have disastrous downstream consequences for the country. Love them or hate them, the entire global economy runs on these bad boys.

Man a lot of people in certain circles have manifested a weird level of vitriol towards @DarlineGrahamSC personally. Name calling, antagonism, straight to the gutter political posturing. Guys, her brother died and @POTUS personally asked her to run and continue his work. I don’t know about y’all but when my President asks me to help him and the Country you do it. “Who does she think she is?” Well, she’s got my vote. 🫡🇺🇸

Great take by @BrandonNewton7 — we’re about to enter a golden age of energy innovation & the last thing we should do is stifle companies figuring out solutions that take pressure off the grid and for rate payers.

NEW: BPI research reveals that a Marxist-Leninist group with documented ties to China has been a critical mobilizer in efforts that have blocked or delayed $23.6 billion in AI investment in the US. Its scalps include 10 data center moratoria, 1 permanent data center ban, and 4 rejected or scrapped AI projects. In Part II of our foreign influence investigation, BPI exposes the Party for Socialism and Liberation (or PSL) as the political arm of Shanghai-based Neville Singham, and lays bare a national campaign launched by the party to stop America’s data center buildout. Singham is the subject of multiple federal investigations into his reported ties to the CCP. Our research uncovers the anti-data-center organizing of his activist vehicle, the PSL, across 21 campaigns in 14 states, in roles ranging from lead organizer to one member of a broader coalition. This report adds to the mounting evidence that China and its surrogates are committed to stopping America’s data center buildout so that Beijing can gain the advantage in the AI race.

Lindsey Graham was the absolute best of us. He loved his family with all his heart. He loved his country and his state and could not be moved from what he believed was right. He wasn't the type to seek credit for the countless monumental things he accomplished every day. He only cared about getting results and helping people. It's one of the greatest honors of my life to work with Lindsey Graham and count him as a friend. He is truly irreplaceable as a statesman, a human being, and a friend.

Your Freedom Caucus co-founder/consultant spent a small fortune blast texting my neighbors falsely accusing me of being in favor of at home abortions - all while he was trading child pornography. So, please spare me the disingenuous “spare me” routine. The only proven example of an elected endangering a child here was your House BFF.
Your Caucus consultant spent a fortune smearing Freedom Caucus candidates last cycle with similar attacks so save the fake, self-righteous outrage. Also, David Martin and Neal Collins are “lifelong conservatives?” Do you really think voters are stupid?
