New work from the lab @NatureAging!❄️Lowering body temperature extends #longevity. We find that cold-induced #proteostasis prevents #aging and aggregation of proteins that cause age-related diseases #ALS #HuntingtonDisease in C. elegans and human cells nature.com/articles/s43587-0…
Worms live longer in cool conditions thanks to a muscle-derived molecule nature.com/articles/d41586-0…
1/6 ❄️ Very happy to share our new study: “Cold activates a BH2 metabolic network promoting longevity and proteostasis.”

5/6 Huge thanks to all co-authors, especially my current and former lab team: Hyun Ju Lee, @dcansu8 @sedakoyuncu12 , Markus, Wehrmann, Dunja Petrovic, Amit Kumar Sahu and Rute Loureiro. Thanks also to Murat Artan and Thorsten Hoppe for their invaluable support and collaboration.
6/6 1000 thanks to @FrezzaLab and his team—their metabolomics contribution was critical to this work. So happy to have Christian @CECAD_ , @UniCologne/@UKKoeln!
Thanks also to the DFG and our Research Unit FOR 5762 for supporting this project.

Really proud of this collaborative work exploring how fungal effectors exploit prion-like domains to access plastids and influence plant metabolism during symbiosis. Great to see the PEPSI–DXR story come together. @neto_flames @JohanaMisas @TheVilchezLab

Our new review on proteostasis of organelles in aging & disease is now online in The FEBS Journal! We discuss recent insights on how #proteostasis safeguards organelle integrity and function across the cell in #aging and disease doi.org/10.1111/febs.70439
The review covers proteostasis mechanisms across major organelles: • Nucleus • Mitochondria • Endoplasmic reticulum • Golgi apparatus • Lysosomes We also highlight proteostasis in membraneless organelles: • Stress granules • P-bodies • Nucleolus • Nuclear speckles
Great collaborative effort by: Yara Nabawi, Cansu Doğan, Dunja Petrović, Gülce Perçin, and Seda Koyuncu

🚨 New from our lab: Here we explored how aging contributes to harmful protein aggregation in diseases like Huntington’s & ALS.
The culprit? An overlooked aging factor — EPS8 and RAC signaling. #Aging #Longevity #Proteostasis #ALSResearch

We also discovered that the deubiquitinase USP4 leads to EPS8 accumulation during aging.
Reducing USP4 prevented EPS8 accumulation, extended lifespan, and lessened disease effects.
👉 Targeting EPS8/USP4 could open new therapeutic strategies for neurodegeneration.
