Raymond Jardine (a Gordon Korman fan)

In eighth grade, I turned in a book report on a novel that didn’t exist. I’d forgotten the assignment, so I invented a 240-page mystery called *The House Beyond Tuesday* on the bus. My teacher loved the report and asked to borrow the book. I said my uncle had it. Then she wanted the author’s name. “Steven… Doors.” For two weeks she searched libraries and asked other teachers about Steven Doors while I kept claiming my uncle read slowly. Eventually she called my mom. Mom listened, covered the phone and asked, “Do we know a Steven Doors?” I whispered, “Not personally.” That answer cost me television for a month.
