When I sent my manuscript to @BooksBonfire I wrote that it was something of a mix between Tao Lin and John Cheever. Because the phrases "realist lucid dreams" or "fictional phantasia" didn't occur to me. They sound much better. And very complimentary. THANK YOU BONFIRE BOOKS!!!!

There is really only one scene that is just Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan sitting down in the conference room discussing the trade dispute. It is about 20 seconds long, and it basically consists of the Jedi being served drinks by the protocol droid, Obi-Wan commenting on how long the Neimoidians are keeping them waiting, and Qui-Gon saying that he senses "an unusual amount of fear for something as trivial as this trade dispute."
Then we cut to Darth Sidious appearing for the first time to the Neimoidians, contemptuously upbraiding one of them for his cowardice (remember? he calls him "stunted slime"), and then ordering the Neimoidians to kill everyone immediately.
Then we cut to the Republic pilots panicking as a gun emplacement suddenly swivels toward them, right before the transport is blasted apart in a huge, fiery explosion--at which point we cut instantly to the Jedi in the conference room suddenly leaping up and dramatically activating their lightsabers.
This is essentially all there is of the boring trade dispute talk in conference rooms that supposedly had people falling asleep in their theater seats. There's like a single twenty-second scene. Obviously that scene is given a relatively calm and uneventful vibe (though with hints of something maybe being not quite right), because it is supposed to provide a contrast to the sudden carnage inflicted at the command of Darth Sidious, which causes the Jedi to instantly leap out of their seats and spring into action.
This is literally good pacing.

Bonfire Books is doing great work, by the way. Last year they published Sleep Capricorn by Jack Norman which I highly recommend.

It's so appropriate that this would be put out by a non-U.S. publisher. Every time a great writer appears in America, we either try to drive him into exile or kill him or put him in jail.

In December, I'll be launching Liam Blackford's debut novel, The Stud, here in Melbourne. Published by
@verdur_in, I've described it as a "fertilitypunk girlboss u/dystopia." Zizek recommends it, as does Chris Kraus (yes, real blurbs). Details in the image.

59 year old women often suffer from poor self esteem due to their deteriorating bodies and a general senility related to menopause and etc. If the concern would relate to a problematic “power dynamic,” I think a young woman would be much more equipped to handle a coercive man.

People talk about the "death of the novel" because they've been conditioned to think that art forms need to undergo radical transformations every five years. They want something new. They want a book with a TV screen in it. A book that rapes you.

The people who think every single piece of art and culture has political meaning somehow doesn't think the welcome to country has any subtext except being nice.
Jump scares are the scariest part of horror movies. I have never seen a scary slow burn that frightened me, except for the parts where they do jump scares!
