The Neon Warden doesn't fly in. It surfaces.
It rises out of the haze, light first, hull second. By the time you can see all of it, the blades are already turning.
It's a wheel of green scythe blades behind a gold ring, and it fights like it looks. It moves in orbits and fires in spirals. Even its flamethrower is acid green, with bubbles in the flame.
Hurt it enough and it sheds armour. Molten breaches crack open in the hull and it starts to smoke. That's phase two. It doesn't calm down from there.
When it finally goes, the cracks light up first. Then it spins faster and faster and peels apart in two spiral arms, like a small galaxy coming undone.
None of the 50 bosses in Nova Swarm die quite the same way. That one's the Warden's.

Zero Wing was never meant to be sold. Toaplan started it to train new hires, on the engine from Hellfire, then released it in arcades in 1989. The badly translated intro of its European Mega Drive version gave us "All your base are belong to us".
