🏇 The G1 Epsom Handicap weights are out, and two leading chances catch my eye.
With the weights released yesterday, TopRate already has the 93 nominations with full form & ratings, adjusted to the weight each horse will carry.
🎥 In this early look, I take a look at two contenders to show why they profile well at the weights on their current form and scope for improvement.
They’re not the only chances. That’s part of the appeal of a G1 handicap: up-and-coming horses down in the weights can bring competitive figures and the potential to spike a new peak on the day.
It makes for a fascinating puzzle, and I’m enjoying getting stuck into some early analysis in TopRate.
I’m also pumped for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup 🏆 weights to come out. Those races will be available to explore too, including ratings for the international horses. I can’t wait to see how they all stack up.

One of the largest development projects we've undertaken in TopRate in 2026 has been extending our form, ratings and sectional databases to allow meaningful analysis at the nominations and weights stage, rather than waiting for final acceptances.
The concept sounds straightforward.
The reality involved significant development to manage data flow and ensure everything worked seamlessly within the existing TopRate platform.
The result is Nominations & Weights Form, which is now live!
🏇 Punters can start assessing races before final fields are known and markets open, prepared to spot early value.
🎯 Trainers and owners can assess how a horse compares in one or more nominated races to make easier and better informed placement decisions.
🏆 One aspect I'm particularly excited about is the ability to analyse entries for major G1 races such as the Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup much earlier than before, with form and ratings available for every nominated runner, including overseas horses.
