Just listening to @AKBets podcast re: change in attitude to gambling and have also been reading about @Channel4 gambling show Million Pound Shot. Back in 2008 or 2009 I was contacted by a producer from Channel 4 about a new reality TV program - they wanted experts in poker, horse racing, stocks/shares, antiques, art, fine wines and other investments to mentor members of the public who would put up £50k of their own money to see who could make the most at the end of a six-month period. I did a screen test at Newbury racecourse and the 'Tristram' in question (RIP A A Gill) asked me "if they bet £50,000 how much could they expect to have six months later?" - my answer - "if they're lucky they'll still have the 50 grand" didn't go down too well, nor did my reply to his wet dream of filming the final episode in Meydan with the contestant placing a large bet on a single race - "you realise that betting is illegal in Dubai?".
